I've been thinking about getting a windshield for my GT200 for some wind protection but I don't really like the looks of them. The midsize is not very attractive and the large are just plain ugly, imho. The fly screen isn't objectionable but is it really worth $200.00? I'm short so I'm thinking it might be better for me than say someone over 6 feet tall.

All it's going to do is keep most of the flies off of you.
I think a small fly screen enhances the look of most modern scooters. |

I have a medium screen and one of these. You can flip it down for more air or adjust it in a number of ways (or remove it easily). Id does deflect teh wind and reduce the noise considerably...
I bought it from China for around $30USD. It is not branded GIVI and doesn't make a difference if it is a GIVI or not but this picture was on the seller's site and it looks just like this. ![]() |

It certainly does as it keeps the wind off your torso. Your head and neck will still be exposed to wind though. All of this depends on your height as well as the taller you are, the more of your upper torso will still be exposed to wind.

You should be aware that a small "bikini" style screen will dump a lot more air onto your helmet at speeds above 30 mph. You will need ear protection every time you go above intown speeds.

I have a fly screen on my P200, and it puts the wind directly on my face. Great for hot summer rides, as I have a steady flow of air through my helmet, but it makes it impossible to ride without a helmet or with the visor open, as my eyes get all teary...
I think I might be able to adjust the angle of the screen by bending the mounting arms a bit, but I'm not sure it will help the issue all that much. |

I put a fly screen on my GTS 250 to reduce fatigue on long, fast rides. It really does take pressure off of the chest thus giving your arms a bit of a break. I bought Vespa's fly screen and ended up cutting about 2 inches off to keep the wind blast from hitting the lower edge of my helmet. Before cutting, it was very noisy. There is still a little noise but I wear earplugs when I know I am going to be spending a lot of time over 60 mph.

I love my flyscreen.
Your torso will be protected from wind which makes the upright riding position less work as you're not doing pullups all the time to keep forward. Your torso is protected from rain, as long as you're moving. Your bike will get better fuel economy and will cruise more easily at speed. Top speed is increased as well. You need to wear a helmet, as air is dumped onto your head. Depending on how tall you are it may make things loud above 50mph. If you ride mainly for transportation, you're better off with something bigger. If you ride mainly for pleasure, the flyscreen is very nice. P. |

No expierence with a 'fly screen' here. On my scoot, not a Vespa, I have a 'mid-size' windshield which extends to slightly higher than the mirrors. At about 5'7"-5'8" tall it puts most of the wind blast to right about at the top of my helmet, seemingly most comfortable for me. I rode most of the summer without the windshield due to a broken part issue and was not loving life because of it....

The flyscreen certainly looks nice, but it does not do any of the desired functions of a windscreen. It deflects wind, water, and bugs into your neck and face rather than over your helmet. As far as wind goes, you will be better without one. A mid-height screen with some hand coverage and a height which deflects airflow just over your helmet, while you can look over the screen, is the ideal configuration IMO. And I say all that as someone who owns both for my GTS.

IMHO the fly screen is pretty useless. Had one on my Triumph and all it did was keep the bugs off the back of my speedo. Sold it on CL for $50. Bought my Vespa second hand and it already had a large screen on it. Was going to remove it but got hooked on the protection. Like riding on a cloud . . . or a marshmallow.

I put a mid sized screen on my gt200, (after getting caught in the rain), and at first i thought it was kind of ugly but after riding with it i found the benifits of it far outweighed the looks. i also found it seems to make the scooter faster !

If you're riding long distance you'll really notice the difference.
Sure it throws the wind up towards your helmet but it's a price worth paying to get it off your chest. Bill x |

The Fly Screen is a great summer screen, and does deflect some of the air off of you, but if you want to ride in colder weather, any of the midsize screens is an improvement. I have no idea why anyone would stick the large shield on a scooter.

This picture is borrowed from Motorcycle Cruiser web pages, but it's pretty good.
It's easy to get an idea what works from protection viewpoint, if you'll look large long distance bikes, like Honda Goldwing. If you'll go for large screens, I'll vote for looking ones with well integrated hand (wind) protection. Ugly as....,but quite nice from protection viewpoint. Me? I prefer naked, liked a naked 125cc Sprint and like my naked 200cc Suzuki. But If I'd have to ride long distance, I would like somehing to take the wind out from my chest. ![]() |

If your tall, iam 6ft 3", all the fly screen does is direct the wind into your face, the faster you go, the worse it gets, saying that, i still have one as i like the look.

Small Fly screen
I'm right at six foot and have a small fly screen on my GTS250. I replaced a standard size to smaller and there is no difference in wind to the face. I ridden mine without a fly screen and yes! lots of wind. I was breaking all kinds of wind...just like some of the hot air advice on this site. He he he

I'm thinking about this one. The price seems good & I could always cut it down if I think it's too big after I ride with it for awhile.
What do you people think about the smoke tint? Good or bad? https://scooterpartsco.com/gt-200/gt-200-accessories/malossi-sport-screen-for-vespa-gt-and-gts?zenid=4a3f307db3743a9c14db63b32353c857 |

Mine is a smoke tint. Nice look and no problem for visibility because you won't be looking through it.

We have three scoots. My '79 P200E with no screen, my wife's Buddy 170i with a short screen, similar to a fly screen and my ZNEN 150 with a tall shield. Of the three, the one I like the least is the Buddy. That little bike will do nearly 70, but at 5'11" anything over 30mph for me is like a nice ride interrupted by the fact that I'm being continually punched in the face.
Having said that, my wife is several inches shorter, and the screen is just enough to push the wind to the top of her helmet. I ride the P200E all the time with an open face helmet and goggles and it's pretty comfortable. A little breezy at times, but even at 60 it's not bad because the wind is "all over". The ZNEN's tall windshield completely protects me and is incredibly comfortable. I got used to the appearance pretty quickly and really enjoy the protection from June-bug-bullets. Consider why you want a shield and choose one that meets your needs. If you have a dealer around, ask if you can test ride one of each to see what works best for you. |

After riding "naked" for a year, I'm set to get the "Euro-spec" Flyscreen. Since I wear a FF helmet, I'm not terribly concerned about airflow (or flies for that matter) to the face, mainly taking some pressure off the chest area, and getting the bike just a tad more aero. And, yeah, I'll admit it, I like the look.
