Hey LarryTSG, I probably should have started a new thread re: the red P. My question wasn't really:

"Should I buy this $4000 P?"

but rather (asking as a relative newbie):

"How is it possible to spend $10000 rebuilding a P200 - is that listing a con or am I too new to realize you can legitimately spend that amount on that model?"

That's all I was trying to understand.

It's possible to pay that much if you're paying someone's labor charges to restore it.

Have you read up on this thread and clicked on some of the helpful links within it about buying?

Maybe read up some more and take a step back from the frantic search?

195,70 for 2 tires & tubes?? WTF!!! Were they golden??
2 pirelli @ 47.95 (58.10)
2 tubes @ 12.95 (25.90)

an hour of labor @ 80

so you're at $165 before tax, disposal, tire tax and some shop supplies. so that's not astronomical in any sense of the word.

this.

paint and body can easily be 1500+ add in tear down and reassemble at 1700~2000 and you're almost there. and that's before parts replacements- new badges, rubber, trims, signals, etx. so tack on another few hundo there. so you're easily at 4K before you tackle an engine, suspension, and any cables and wiring.

add in some powder coating, maybe some plating and polishing and you can see 5 digits right quick, and exceed that easily with some performance parts.

Sorry Hipster.... now I get the point (that's the sharp end, right?)

It's like the thing that people used to calculate in the old days... a $5000 car would cost $10,000 if you purchased the parts separately from the dealer. And you'd still have to put it together!

Yeah, if you're paying someone an hourly rate of $50-$100 it can add up quickly. Professionals can move a lot faster than a doubting novice like myself, but they're not lightning quick... and the time adds up.

There is a guy here who lives in Key West (or somewhere near there) and had Scooters Originali in New Jersey do a rebuild/restore on his P200, and it probably cost him $8k, and he showed up with a decent scooter.

if it's got current tags and title i'd offer 1500

"been sitting a year in storage"

translation: hasn't been run in two or three, and the tags are out at least that much.

note the shitty sava on the front? they haven't made that tire in that size for many, many years AND it was damn near the absolute cheapest 3.50 you could buy at the time.

22K, broken lever, been sitting, and suspect "service history"...

this is how 2K bikes become 4K bikes...

but, it is all there... for 15 i'd roll some dice...

But Greasy... it's like an old gangster car, the trunk is so big you could put a body in it!

Seriously, with 22k on the clock and no recent rebuild it might not be worth $2k, but $2k as a starting point is not an outrageous place to begin. At least it's a reasonably honest scooter, it was ridden. But not ridden in 2 years and no recent rebuild puts you in a place for spending some coin before enjoying it.
