Hey all brand new to the group I have a 1979 Vespa p200e my issue is the wires from my stator are in such bad shape I can barely tell some of the colors (there are 7 of them.) The wires on my wiring harness are in good shape but clearly some of the colors do not coincide. I purchased a new stator (supposedly for my model.) will this 5 wire model work for me? I've heard that it could be a redundant kill switch and ground? Any help is greatly appreciated

Send your stator to these guys! Have them re-wire it for you.

As far as the 5 wire stator you own, I'd return it and get your money back. It will not work with your existing harness without major modifications.

Thanks for the info! I returned the 5 wire stator and got the correct 7 wire stator. All the colors match up except the stock one had two yellow wires and the new one has one yellow and one pink? The connectors match up so I'm assuming the new pink wire goes to the other yellow on my harness??

You bought a later model stator (1980 and on). I can't say for certain but I think I remember hearing something about those will burn up the double yellow wire regulator?? Maybe someone will chime in and confirm. I definitely know the coils are wired differently between 1979 to 1980 stators so they changed regulators to suit.

That said, I'd call scooter mercato or Scooterwest and ask one of their salespersons. They would know. Worst case, theyd steer you in the right direction for parts/ get the original stator rewired.
