Very sorry to hear of the death on Friday of John Surtees. Surtees was the only racer to have won World Championship titles on two and four wheels, winning the 500cc motorcycle title in 1956, `58, `59 and 1960 with the MV Agusta factory team, and after switching to four wheels, won the Formula 1 title for Ferrari in 1964.

I was able to shake his hand ten years ago at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance.

My son Sam let me take a photo of the two of them at the event.

His successes on the track were a little before my time, but I remember his cars running F1. He was a giant in the racing world.

He was a great champion, as well as a great constructor, back when such things were possible.
