First fatality for the season in my locale.
I7 year old on a motorcycle nailed an SUV at an intersection.
Driving with an M2 licence, which is second level here in Ontario. Usually denotes a new rider with not much experience.
On a crotch rocket as well.
Not a good start for the season.

Ride safe out there.

Extra risk early in the season...... sand, rusty skills..... new bike wouldn't help.

I was out earlier and almost got taken out by a guy driving a big pickup towing a utility trailer. I was in the right lane, he in the left. I passed him, then he came up beside me and proceeded to overtake my lane and nearly hit me with his trailer. I simultaneously hit my rear brake and horn as I veered into the bicycle lane. After I cleared his trailer, I pulled around him on the left when he lowered his window and yelled out that he was sorry and thought I was turning off the street. So he saw me and assumed I was doing something that I wasn't. My turn indicator was not on and it is not malfunctioning. I blame the recently passed legal recreational marijuana law as my experience is that the rate of these types of occurrences on the road has increased since then.

I don't think weed was an issue with either driver. More likely a young, inexperienced driver on a bike that was too much for him.
A life cut short. So sad.

E that sound right. We get a lot of military "kids" who get sport bikes and they have little to no experience riding them. Came across this about a month ago. The rider made it out alive and i don't think he broke anything. Damn tourist turned right in front of him which didn't help matters any. The handlebars and instrument panel is gone.

I meant in my area. I didn't know it was legal in the great white north too. It's happening rapidly, isn't it?! Either way, I agree, it is tragic when young lives are cut short. Sending good vibes out to all riders as we enter into riding season.

How many people expect use of indicators where you live? Here in California a majority seems to regard them as optional decorations. I was taught look-indicate-position-break-turn in exactly that order but at least half of all drivers here simplify it to break-turn leaving out the other three details.

Some unique challenges around my neck of the woods as well. Half the people are dicking around with their cell phones, there's still lots of sand out there, and they've been putting in traffic circles all over the place ( I think you folks call them "roundabouts" ) that the locals don't know how to navigate safely.

Definitely calls for defensive driving and situational awareness. Be careful out there!
