Today I jacked up the commuter's front end and checked the steering. Smooth and no slop at all in the steering bearings.
Now I have about 4 possibility's causing the shimmy.
1) Front tire out of balance.
I've got about 7,000 miles on the tire, it was spin balanced and I check the pressure every week.
2) front forks.
It's been a long time since I've worked on forks but I'll make this the next to last solution.
3) rear shocks.
This is basically a throw money at it remove and replace job. With my limited knowledge of suspensions, I have to ask. Can poor preforming rear shocks cause the front end to feel loose?
4) motor mount/swing arm.
I'm hoping to ignore this and maybe it'll go away
I've removed, cleaned and re greased the swing arm on all of my motorcycles but this job on a scooter looks like it's no cake walk.
Any input from the suspension experts would be appreciated.
