And yeah, compared to the local gravel, those roads look idyllic. Keep enjoying them!
Well dealing with Mike at About Town has been a pleasure Not to mention the blue one I'm riding had less than 2,000 on the ISO when we picked it up and the silver less than 5,000.

Been mostly cloudy but not a lot of actual rain. I can also recommend the pub we stayed at last night. Excellent Sunday roast and breakfast.

Enjoying Shakespeare's birthplace after riding through the Cotswolds today.

Oh shut up! Clown emoticon Clown emoticon The only scooters that have broken down on us were old or Chinese. The HondWa that broke was a 2001 and I really don't think there is anything we could have done to cause a belt to break on the GTS 250. The Sym scooters in Port Douglas were flawless and this pair has about the same mileage on them.

Hidecote Manor Garden is on our agenda for today since the sun is out for a change but is supposed to go away early afternoon with rain by evening.

This morning the sun was out when I woke but didn't stay so cloudy but pleasant most of the morning. When leaving Hidcote Gardens we were parked next to a pair of Triumps Tigr and another big dual sport who had the paved m/c parking leaving us the gravel. The couple came up who owned them and asked if we were touring because they had seen us in the rain near Devizes a couple days ago. They were in the car instead of on the bikes. After a few minutes chat they went in their way to try and beat the rain home. We didn't beat it to Tew which is where our pub for the night is but the scoots are nicely tucked away while we enjoy a pint or two before dinner.

That's closer to where we have been. Where we will be tomorrow through Friday is https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari&gfe_rd=cr&um=1&ie=UTF-8&fb=1&gl=uk&entry=s&sa=X&ftid=0x4876bd78806fff41:0xd27123aae0ca90fc&gmm=CgIgAQ%3D%3D

Then Milton Keynes Friday night and Hazel Grove on Sunday before we turn towards Wales and head back south. We noticed the roads varied quite a bit in how well they were maintained today. The worst road surface the entire ride so far was in today's rain

I tried posting an update from my phone so I could include a photo of the view while having tea but after three failures I gave up.

Unlike the mostly cloudy with occasional drizzle or light rain today we had nothing but rain. Good thing we didn't have that far to go even including a detour to Oxford. Sadly by the time we arrived at the Beetle & Wedge our rain gear which had been working quite well decided not to do so anymore. Even my waterproof boots and gloves leaked. I suspect it maybe because they didn't get a chance to dry out 100% along with TomTom sending us on the M4 despite telling it no highways. (Followed by a single track lane with the occasional water flowing over the road, sigh might as well been on a cannonball.)

However the lovely landlady of the Beetle & Wedge has earned herself a 5 star review when I asked if there was any place for laundry around so I could at least dry the wet clothes under our rain pants. She offered to pop our stuff into her personal washer/dryer. Plus she let us into our room a bit early. Nice big room with comfortable bed and huge claw foot bathtub. After unloading and putting our wet stuff into a bag for her I settled in with a pot of tea and my husband a pint overlooking the river. Watched boat traffic ranging from ducks to vintage canal boats. Looking forward to dinner with the same view. With two nights booked here the gear that can't go into a dryer should have time to dry completely. Tomorrow's forecast is for clouds but not rain so we'll be exploring the Midsomer Murders "driving" tour routes. Unfortunately we have rain forecast again for Friday when he head to Milton Keyes and Bletchley Park. I expect we'll spend a fair bit of time exploring Bletchley's interior exhibits.

Of course now that we are all nicely dry and tucked in for the day the rain is slacking off but that's okay. Time for me to get a pint or glass of wine or something now that tea is over.

LLanfyllin, Wales to start then whatever looks good as we head back south. We'd like to do the coast but weather still isn't looking too promising.

Trying to figure out which of the two events in the greater Manchester area to check out on Sunday. Thinking of spending Sunday night in or near Chester.

If you're looking for an eatery, I can recommend the food at Lake Vyrnwy Hotel, about 20 minutes ride from LLanfyllin, with excellent views over the lake

Sounds good and their room rates aren't too bad either. We'll need to figure out which day we'll get there. Weather has changed our plans more than once so far.

I bet they don't. By 'blood sausage' i assume you mean black pudding? Or white pudding even? Or both? Let me assure you, it's gorgeous.

Fortunately we've been there & hope to return. My wife especially enjoys travel there given the language easily allows culture exchange-when I'm understood-or vice versa...
FWIW, I grew up in an Air Force town with an abundance of British, girl brides brought to America by service members.
Yes, black pudding as in made with blood.
As they say here now days-My bad, pudding not sausage! We eat too much fish & chips over there. I like curry and indulge the Indian food but my wife not at all on that. I even bought some Knorr's Curry Sauce mix after our Ireland trip to replicate at home in KY the "curry fries" found there.

On that interest I'm thinking a September trip as I'll have finished my 2 months PT for another hip by then. We went in late spring last time, also a hinge season.
I can see there's a ready reserve of UK'er's to answer my travel questions here on MV. CD's fun thread has my travel juices really flowing.

This has been a very enjoyable read for me. Thanks, I am vicariously living through your posts. The travel, the connections to BBC series and history is wonderful to read while I have my cuppa spiced tea...
Since I am permanent resident (Green card) and have an Indian Passport, the caucasian countries in Europe aren't especially inclined to give me a visa to travel through their lands for obvious reasons...
So these travel posts from fellow Vespa riders is wonderful and I am grateful that you share these with us...
Happy safe travels....

Pint, more like 3

Today was all we could want in terms of being out. Sunshine, curvy back lanes, small villages, national trust property with only one casualty. Apparently my well broken in comfortable Rockports's weatherproofing not only gave up the ghost in the rain yesterday but walking around Grey's Court it felt like I had mud on the bottom of my boy. I looked down to survive the sole was coming off. It didn't even stay on long enough to get back to the score and the other one started to come loose. We ahead plans to meet a distant cousin of Steve's back at the Beetle and it was time to head back to meet him anyway. Arrived same time as his cousin and I found out there was a C a KS 3 miles up the road or a much longer trip to Henley or Oxford. So not riding boots but a sturdy pair of walkers. While it's prefer over the ankle that are a lot better than my casual flats plus we're on sale for 25£ you can't get Clark's in the US even on sale for that.

I'm glad that you could pick up some decent footwear at a more than reasonable price. I have a number of pairs of Clarks shoes / boots. Mostly bought cheaply in their sales which happen every so often. I just have to remember to check their website. I am so happy that you are enjoying your time here (apart from the rain). Nice photos by the way.

Today was a mixed bag with cloudy and cool but with no rain for the first part of our ride this morning where we went to a few Midsomer Murder locations. Then about a half an hour from Bletchley Park it decided to rain not particularly heavy but enough that we pulled into a layby for Steve to add a layer. I put rain gear on before leaving this morning but he forgot until he'd already loaded the Vespa and hoped for the best.

A coffee before starting to explore Bletchley put everything to rights. Spent 4 hours there and I'm sure Steve would have liked longer but my new shoes said time to take me off. So we are now in Milton Keyes and will be heading to The Swan for a pint soon.

Tomorrow we'll be heading to Hazel Grove. Steve has been taking shots from the camera while riding but I haven't got them yet so sooner or later there will be a few photos from the rides. Oh and the sun was more or less out when we left Bletchley but TomTom sure did like to route us through a boatload of roundabouts.

Didn't make it to the Manchester event. Weather was great when we left Milton Keynes but moderately heavy rain followed so we stopped for a bird and coffee in Lychfield then got turned around when TomTom army is someplace we weren't intending to apparently die to some accidental touch when putting it in my waterproof pocket. However once we realized it we ended up on the A515 which I highly recommend. Not that I was influence by all the signs warning motorcyclists of dangerous curves and to slow down; )

Weather you name it and short of extreme winds if it occurs at terms above 10c 40 something f we probably saw it today heavy rains made a gas stop a godsend especially since some large SUV hit a deep puddle and sent a wave over me heavy enough that water poured in the top of my helmet visor that was closed. Waited a bit after filling up until the rain slacked off and had sunshine -5 minutes later. All of that poor it's in almost 3 hours later than we intended. So we're heading to a friend micro pub in a but now that we are in dry clothes and have our wet stuff on the heated towel bar to dry.

On A515-Old Manchester Ed we had to stop multiple times for my husband to take photos which are still in the camera but here's one from my phone.

Sounds like you're getting the Full English, weather-wise. Good news is that if you plan on a visit to Leek tomorrow for the Jesters Scooterfest, things are looking up. From the BBC weather centre for Leek...

Aye, something very large and Percheron-ish is the extant of my equine knowledge, I'm afraid. ...in a field a couple farms up my the family we're visiting.

Sun is out in Hazel Grove and finishing up breakfast. Then the plan is to head to Leef for the Jester event then to Chester for 2 nights. Monday weather looks promising for exploring the Welch coast then down to Llanfyllin via Horseshoe Pass on Tuesday.

Then we'll make our way back to Horsham to turn the scoots back in on Saturday. We decided logistics of getting them back on Monday before our flight back to the US were simply too complicated. So we'll likely take the train or something into the greater London area and use public transit until time to
to the airport on Monday. My husband still wants to go to Greenwich so that will probably be the plan for Sunday if anyone wants to meet for a meal, pint or ?
