I am starting a rebuild of a P200 motor with components dug out of various parts boxes. I am planning to build a long distance motor (CBR 2018) so reliability is paramount.

I have a cut Mazzuchelli crank at hand that I can use but was wondering what your take on it is? I wanna keep the rest all stock(ish): 24/24 carb, Sito Plus at the most.

Use the cut crank? Or go shop for a stock crank?

I have run the CBR vintage twice. In my opinion there are two ways to set up your motor
1) Highly modified
2) Fully stock.

I would not suggest building with stuff laying around. Use the best bearings available. Double check everything as you build then check again.

This last CBR I had to do a motor swap 4 days before the start. Put a 2005 PX200 crate motor into my 67 GT. I had 100 miles on it at the start. I was the oldest bike to finish every leg.

A stock P200 crank is a good crank. I would suggest upgraded clutch, suspension and brakes.

3,900 miles in 11 days.

The vintage Cannonballers are a different breed...we help each other out a lot and all the other riders think we are insane...they may be right!

See you at the start!

The longer duration crank - even on stock engine - is a great idea, especially on an endurance motor, because the motor will benefit from increased cooling.

Two stroke motors, especially forced air cooling like Vespas, rely heavily on raw fuel to cool the piston in order to prevent seizures. The cut back crank lets in a bit more fuel, over stock, and that contributes to cooling the piston. In cases of stock motors there is no performance benefit but a reliability and longevity increase.

If you already have one kicking around, put it in, there is no drawback.

Thanks for the insight! I'll definitely won't use old bearings and such ...

Very much looking forward to next year!! See you there!

What did you do for upgraded brakes on your GT? Disk brake?

Bo freaking rocked it on Sloppy Joe! I know that she had to rejet going up Big Horn Mountain and soft seized onece in 100 degree F temps. She rode with the right cowl on her lap to cool the motor down.

Scooter chicks rock!

If you haven't done so yet register on the CBR site
http://www.scootercannonball.com/forum/

There is a ton of good information.

It's really old school and vintage sticks. I helped Gonzo open up his motor one night and troubleshoot...then tried to beat him the next day!

He has done the same for me.

Capt. Gary it a Cannonball pro!

Good times!
