I think they may have been mandatory in the US but I'm in Australia where I understand that prior to a certain year they don't have to be installed. I am restoring a 1969 Vespa Rally 180.

If you don't want them the job's right. I didn't want them at first but now I have bar ends. Not very good in bright sunlight but in dim conditions they are fairly easy to see. The best looking indicators imo.

Replaced leds since first doing it but it's been relatively trouble-free.
