LONDON is today in the grip of normality, with millions having their breakfast then going to work.

As the sun rose on a slightly chilly but otherwise pleasant spring day, residents of the metropolis faced up to doing the things that they would ordinarily do.

Librarian Susan Traherne said: "I'm going to have a bowl of Jordan's Country Crisp with the dried strawberry bits in it and a cup of tea, and then get on the busy tube train to my work.

"I might read a few pages of my book on the way, if I can be arsed.

Blimey ! I was in two minds weather to post or not, half expecting VERY negative reactions. I am surprised and pleased the silent minority are here. Answers? I don't have any which will be accepted so lets just say in 100 years there will be sufficient voters to democratically vote it whatever change of regime they want.
But please not bury our heads in the sand and pretend it wont be like that...

Roads closed and Westminster tube still not open but everything else normal, excepting more police and the world's media wandering about.

One of my colleagues was locked into the Commons for hours last night. She was in the following morning, no comment.

For those people who predict some sort of demographic doom for democracy it's an almost irrelevancy; the Germans voted in the Nazi Party and they were a very pure nation indeed. It didnt save them, their democracy failed because they invited a bunch of zealots into their institutions who cast about trying to get rid of anyone who wasn't "German". Zealots don't have to be in particular forms but they mostly have simple minded messages about hatred of others and how the world will end if you don't see it their way. They mean their world ends.

Westminster is an extraordinary place. Some form of Parliament has existed there for over 800 years. The place may seem arcane or strange; but it is years of the British discussing and debating their law and their way of life which is enduring. Don't get hysterical and say it's due to fall away. It's rot.

Upon further reflection... nevermind. We all have our opinions on political subjects, but this forum really isn't the place to be discussing them.

This isn't culture. It's just repression of people and criminal activity. You can't dignify someone who runs over people and stabs people as culture. If he hadn't been shot, he would have gone to prison for violating our society just as you wish.

As for people's opinions, we have laws against people who preach hatred and incite terrorism. You can't ban people from thinking things, however unpleasant. You can only, in a free society, prosecute crimes. That's what the rule of law is about.

50 years ago it was a criminal offence to be homosexual in Britain. If you were caught more than once the state ordered you in adversion therapy and gave you hormones to make you feel womanly. We changed the law in Westminster so people weren't treated so poorly. The majority of the British people hated this at the time- now the situation is completely different. These criminals are a minority. They crave death and attention. There's no culture war here, thank you.

I for one am not really talking about criminal acts. As has been pointed out previously the laws change to reflect the ( political) beliefs at that time. 800 years of history at Westminster are largely irrelevant when the current voting system has existed a much shorter length of time. Facts are we as a country are tolerant to other cultures/religions which are in a substantial minority at the moment.... when they ( jedi,s ) are not a minority do you think they will be asking or legally voting and taking? Do you think the distinction between the new church and state will be there?

You will be the lawbreakers if you don't fall in line.... hand wringing and hashtags wont help your cause.

no, it's not an impossible request. we've got an excellent history on MV of discussing potentially sensitive matters without accusing, demonising, or pointing fingers. The original post here was an expression of strength and unity. it was not an invitation to discuss what to do with people who 'want to supplant our society.' Nor was it an invitation to accuse 'folks on the left' of somehow encouraging or tolerating this. Please try to understand and respect the difference between these two forms of discourse.

The attacker was English born and bred, a career criminal with a long history of petty offenses - a man who probably felt powerless and alienated and who latched onto a twisted ideology as way of trying to find meaning in his life. Was he 'them'? Was he 'us'? He was both, and that's what makes this situation so complicated and so sad.

Do you have the courage of your convictions - can you find them, and then what will you do? You say law is inadequate as it is? What will you do?

It comes to the level of spiritual evolvement (energy level) of people. Very low energy people live in the space of negative emotions and because they lack love they have no strength resisting the negative emotions. Someone who is motivated by fear and anger gets very easily manipulated to do harm to others and him/her self. This has nothing to do with religion/culture/place/time/nationality. At the same time, because like energies gravitate towards like energies, we can find that certain areas of the world are more prone to manifesting violence than other. Religions are a very potent way to convey information/messages and to influence people's lives. Dr David R. Hawkins clearly demonstrated that also religions have a certain energy level that can be calibrated. It is clearly obvious that the higher energy level something has (in this example a religion), the more peaceful and loving it is, and vice versa.
It is vital to be aware of "things" that easily become channels of violence
and not make excuses for them or condone them.
One can tell the tree by the fruit it produces.

When a violent act, like the one in London occurs, it's important not to get swept up by the current of fear/anger/hate that produced the event.
The only way to positively affect the world is via love, compassion, and understanding.

Me and a few of my colleagues will be visiting London next week in business.
If there would have otherwise been any hesitation about the trip, now we would do everything in our power not to cancel.

It's sad that there are people capable of doing something like this, but I'll just simply refuse to surrender to fear or generalization of these acts as a sign of something bigger than they are.

That is a false statement.
Even very young children have a certain level of spiritual evolvement that underlines their actions, their deeds.
As an easy evidence of this, consider that some very young children pick up sticks and beat trees, bushes with them; or they bully other very young children. And some other very young children play very harmoniously and peacefully.
