I heard the news this morning that this winner of the Guinness Book of World Records for having the longest running show, with the same host in the same time slot on the same network is "plugging the plug" after 25-years at CNN.

That would be Larry King Live host Larry King, who, judging by this picture, is already on the lookout for wife #14, which he should be getting to around 2028.

Isn't it crazy when you discovery adult references in things we watched and read as kids, whether some subtle sexual joke in a Looney Tunes cartoon or some not-too-subtle sexual innuendo in this clip from the 70's British television series "Rainbow".

Case in point: As I kid I totally devoured this series of books about two fictional amateur detectives solving mysteries in and around their hometown of Baypot. But I certainly don't recall anything about them being into bondage, as this cover clearly depicts!

That would be Frank and Joe aka The Hardy Boys fictional teenage brothers and amateur detectives who appear in various mystery series for children and teens.

She - an actress, musician and singer-songwriter.

Him - a singer-songwriter and guitarist.

Add a drummer, a pedal steel guitar & mandolin player, a bassist and you have this indie folk band.

Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, otherwise known as She & Him.

This multi-band frontman gives hope to somewhat-geeky guys everywhere, proving that all it takes to get the hot girl - in this case, the aforementioned She - is...well...a couple of very successful indie bands.

That would be Ben Gibbard who is married to Zooey Deschanel and is the lead singer of Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service, also known for his project ¡All-Time Quarterback! and his first band, Pinwheel.

The wiki page for pretzel shows a pic of a dude from Burg carrying a pretzel around his neck. In a classic Samuel Taylor Colerdige epic, the protagonist is forced to carry this around his neck.

Hmmmmm. I'd opt for contrition by pretzel.

That would Minotaur by Paul Rand (no not the American serial killer or Australian footballer) but the neo-classical painter from Scotland who reviewer Iain Gale wrote about in "Six of the best painters point the way forward", Scotland on Sunday, 30th January 2005

Since he burst on to the British art scene three years ago, shaking up received notions of what contemporary art was about, Paul Reid has been gathering a loyal audience with his unique take on the apparently redundant tradition of neo-classical painting.
Yet he has also made as many people wish he would go away. His art is unlike anything else you will see on the contemporary scene. While some others might imitate the old masters, Reid creates his own vocabulary and towers over his rivals through his sheer draughtsmanship and feel for paint. But there is nothing reactionary about this work. Reid is not attempting single-handedly to subvert the the current trend for conceptualism, some of which he admits is powerful and valid. Rather he sees himself as part of a bigger picture, using Greek myth as it was originally intended to be used, as a metaphor through which to tap into basic human truths and mysteries.

So this morning I was listening to NPR's Morning Edition and they played an old blues tune Walking Blues done by this gentleman.
I love me some slide guitar

So after checking NPR, YouTube and Wikipedia I found out (after posting the song on my facebook page) that although he played music ( he learned from Mississippi Fred McDowell, who lived nearby in an adjoining county ) for much of his life, he didn't receive much attention until the early 1990s and in the late 1990s recorded with Jon Spencer, garnering crossover appeal and introducing his music to a new fanbase within the underground punk blues music scene.

And like many blues musician he didn't have an easy life. He moved from Mississippi to Chicago and within a year his father, brother and uncle were all murdered in the city. Returning to Mississippi to work the farms again and raise a family. He was convicted of murder and sentenced to six months' incarceration in Parchman Prison. Fortunately his boss at the time pulled strings to keep the murder sentence short. He later said "I didn't mean to kill nobody ... I just meant to shoot the sonofabitch in the head. Him dying was between him and the Lord."

He died September 1, 2005 at the age of 78 leaving behind a wife, 4 daughters, 9 sons, 3 sisters, 1 brother, 35 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one "adopted son." Whom he affectionately called "white boy on guitar" and "my white son", blues slide guitarist Kenny Brown.

Hmmm, I learned a new slang word today.

Short for "costume play," there are both some pretty good and really...uhhh...unfortunate examples of these real-life representations of fictional characters (usually video game or anime).


I had no idea Messy was so into "Sailor Moon."

That would be Cosplay short for "costume play",it is a type of performance art in which participants don costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea.

Burnside, mine of late has been a constant replay of this Australian children's group's DVDs which my 17 month old daughter practically pleads for me to play daily. And while I'll admit that their songs are actually pretty catchy (sadly, I find myself singing them even when she's not around), there's only so many times a grown person can listen about how you should "stop at the light, and look both ways. Look both ways again" before he cracks.

According to their wiki page, they earned AU $45 million in 2009, and over the years their records have gone gold 17 times, platinum 12 times, double-platinum 3 times, and multi-platinum 3 times. Not too shabby for a collection of songs about eating fruit and dancing around like a monkey.


Behind the Music: "Creative tensions would soon come to a head when orange-shirted Kenneth was given an ultimatum by their record company: either cut his Samson-esque locks or leave the band. In the end, his hair would not be tamed."

That would be the Wiggles, a children's musical group formed in Sydney, Australia in 1991.
