I've got a request! Any folks out there who ride an early 1960s VBB (150cc, 4-speed) which has a straight, undamaged frame and fork-slash-front end?

I'm looking for the length of the distance measured from the frame just below the front seat (above the choke knob and fuel tap rod) directly forward to the ring on the steering column... as pictured below. i'd be grateful for your input!

I just got a '64 VBB that's in overall fair to good condition, except that the front fork lower portion and front wheel are bent backward toward the rear -- most likely from a past collision or other type of impact. That's got to be fixed or replaced obviously. But my other concern is whether the frame or leg shield may have also been affected. Thanks to those in an earlier thread for their suggestion to double-check this.

Cheers!

Btw...
I just got to measuring that span just now, and it's 14-1/2" straight across from the foremost part of frame under the front seat to the collar on the steering column.
Thanks!
Zach

If your VBB doesn't look like this...
I'd be grateful for any input! Thanks anyone!

I'm happy to measure mine tonight, but it's a Sprint style frame, so not sure if that will reveal anything.

I would think if the frame is bent, you might detect some buckling in the legshield or floorboards, or kinking at the tunnel near the floor to legshield bend. I do see what looks like a buckle in the RHS floor, but considering where it is, I think that's from overloading the centerstand, not anything else. Again, I have no experience with this, but it seems there would be other cues.

From early in your other thread:
Ginch wrote:
From memory, the gap between the nub of the body below the front of the seat and the "ring" bit at the top of the steering column housing was 14 inches. If the wheel has hit something it bends the fork but also tends to lever the legshields forwards, if you can picture that.

If you pull the fork out you'll be able to see just how bad it is.
If you found 14 1/2" and if Ginches number is right, the legshield may have been pried forward slightly relative to the rest of the frame. If he sees this, he can direct you to an old post he made on how to adjust it yourself fairly easily. Much easier than straightening a fork.

14", 15" - maybe best wait for somebody w/ an undamaged VBB to measure & post up. I think that different pre-P largeframe models can have subtle frame differences beyond roundtail/squaretail though they look pretty much the same. Ginch? Hodge?

My 1965 VBB measures 14 5/16. The frame is completely straight/undamaged.

Hope that helps.

Thanks extremely, people. And Happy Thanksgiving, both to U.S. folks and those abroad. One thing I'm thankful for is this forum and the accumulated experience of the Vespisti here. Cheers
