I used to have this black gas tank with a red cap. There is a small version with an opening annoyingly too narrow for the gas pump and a larger version that works.

Does anyone know what brand is this?

Any other method to carry extra gas that is small enough to fit under the seat or otherwise attach to the scooter (but not in the rear luggage rack)?

EDIT: found it -- https://touratech-usa.com/Store/Touratech-3-Liter-Fuel-Canister

Here is the thing though. I recall the mouth of this tank has threads that don't go all the way around it, so the gas leaks from the opening even if it is closed. I recall that I had to get some putty and shape it into threads on the mouth for it to block the gas... not sure if I want to go through that hassle again...

Not sure about this but have a look at a can of Trufuel .

I'm thinking the can not simply the fuel.

cdwise: the red 5L one seems perfect. You are certain it fits under the seat of a GTS 250?

The dimensions on Amazon are: 13.5 x 8.3 x 8.8 inches

The dimensions under my seat are: ~16 x 8.5 (narrowest) x 9 (highest). But the shape is not rectangular and the area with height of 9 inches is rather small.

I would consider buying the saddlebags to carry groceries anyway but won't they just get stolen? Are there saddlebags that are harder to steal that you can leave on?

I used the Amazon link for the 5 liter as an example. Yes one I had was used a different noodles and was picked up at a Gas Station and it fit. I have also seen them at Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe's,, auto parts stores other places where it is easy enough to walk in, measure the options but one and treat for before you leave the parking lot.

The saddlebag cans can bees laid on their side under the seat not just used in saddlebags. I only use saddlebags on long trips, even then I prefer other options because they do reduce your gas mileage.

Depending on how much you need to carry MSR fuel bottles are another option.

I 'm looking for a solution for my MP3. I don't know whether to go with aluminum fuel bottles or something like a Rotopax. I want to be able to throw it under the seat and not worry about it leaking.

There are several option for carrying extra fuel, it boils down to how much you want to carry, and where you cant it mounted.

For my purposes, an MSR fuel bottle mounted to the underside of the rear rack on my GTS fits my needs perfectly.
This isn't my scoot, but is a good visual representation of my setup...

If Trufuel can does not leak at HomeDepot, it will not leak under your seat.

For a one way trip from my brother's house in California to ours in Texas I bought a few cans of premix at a local hardware store intended for chain saws and other tools with small two stroke engines. At his house we dumped it in the gas can he keeps of premix for his tools and refilled with premium gas. Those went under the seat as just in case crossing Arizona, New Mexico and West Texas. When I got to more populated areas starting near San Antonio I dumped them in my tank.

Did they seal up tight after they were opened?

This brand has intrigued me. They make various sizes and mounting options. When I do a long trip I will be getting one.

In South Africa, our Dual Sport riders are well known for their imaginative solutions to problems. They fill 2-litre soda bottles and use them for reserve fuel. The plastic doesn't melt from the fuel and you can pack two in your saddlebags. Some even have saddle bags made up to take them with a cinch strap to secure the neck.

I imagine it its probably illegal in USA... but not here yet!

On the GTS, I would get a Classic Racks foot rack and strap down a 5-litre can like the ones used for power tools.

I seem to recall a few years ago someone posted a photo of their MP3 with a rotopax under the seat but I don't think it fits under a Vespa seat.

Yes, metal cans/threads gave us no problems. I suppose you could use a washer if you were concerned about a tight seal. How many times you could reuse them I haven't a clue because I only cared about the one trip.

Re: Ashbrook
The LongHaul containers seem to be exact copies of the Rotopax. They are very sturdily made and have the funnel pipe extension that one uses to transfer fuel from the container to one's scooter.

It was a lot cheaper and was available quite quickly over here!

To fold the rack down I'd have to mount the container higher up on the front rack and it would obscure the headlight. As it is you can bend it down a bit to hold something like a tool roll or a small carrier bag.

I think you could fold it down first and mount the fixings on the now horizontal section of the rack, then you could store more on top of the can.

I wouldn't unless you put lights in the top case, blocks the tail/brake lights too much.

I bought the black jug seen above from TT on ebay from a UK MC shop seller for less than TT, incl. shipping. SIP sells them too but much higher with s/h.
Well made, no leaks or odors and compact enough for my cat box.
Less snow in the forecast is what I need most...
I ordered some blinking red tail lights for our new bicycles-those could work great on the back of my Vespa when the milkcrate is on the rear rack!
99cents & up.

Good point. I do have lights in top case but I don't want to obscure taillights. Want visibility!!

1.25 Gallon Under Seat Gas Can
Here is my solution to carrying extra fuel on my GTS 250. I am planning on a little trip South and want to take along as much gas a possible but would rather not stow it outside the scooter somewhere. I also didn't want to have to buy several MSR or equivalent sized bottles that are expensive and hard to fill. Mounting those liter bottles seemed like a pain too. I have used one of these 1.25 gallon NO-SPILL cans with the valve type spouts before and found they are easy to fill and pour from.

They are made in the US for that is worth and with the accessory cap cost about $33.00.

The modification to my seat was super quick and simple. I removed the cushion and extended the round 45mm hole in the seat frame to a 45mm x 75mm rectangle. I made the rearward end of the extended rectangle terminate at the contour crease of the seat frame. The protrusion of the can handle does not interfere with the bottom side of the cushion when it is replaced. This seat is also a split seat but I think this will work for a stock single cushion seat as well.

Ha! No I haven't taken this set up out yet. I do have a bag of DOT Gummy Bears in the garage. I'll calibrate them and through them in the pet carrier for the next outing.

What temperature limit do you think I should avoid? The niffty factor seems a little diminished the more I imagine of an explosion. I will have to think about this idea some more......

In a sort of related way- I just finished a "gas can spout" search for a good one to retro-fit my old gas jugs. Walmart sells the whole thing as pictured above from No-Spill in several sizes. The best retro spout I've found is HI-FLO which comes in a couple of versions one of use for scoots as it has an ethanol sized small spout end. The other one I bought was for my diesel jugs and has a larger spout for fast deli9very into larger filler holes and comes with a spout extension to assist filling equipment.
Gas can safety,etc.- In my spout search I ran into the Blitz Gas Can Co.'s final resting place. They gave it up after making gas cans since WWII and millions $$$ of law suits, most from 3 lawyers who went after them. The retro- spouts for post 2009 jugs are not sold in many states that have lawyered up gas jugs & spouts.
I'm not sure I get a concern over the gummy bear temps for the gasoline in the cat box given the regular gas tanks right over the exhaust and in the same general area? Not that I will necessarily put some in there.
