I just bought a new Piaggio fly 50 and it's 2007 model. The last owner said that he couldn't get it started it took it to the shop and they messed it up. I tried to get it started will not start. I took out the carburetor and spray some eater inside it and put it back in and try to start it and it still will not start. I checked up the valves if it's loose and it seems to be okay. I have no lights and my instrument panel is dead do but I can get the starter turning the signal seems to work I had to fix the signal cuz they had it backwards. I'm pulling my hair now see what else is wrong what do you think I should do next? Need some help guys. I can see that it was sparking but not nice blue color. Do you think it's timing? This is a pretty nice fly it's only got about 300 miles for 2007. So I don't think it involves the valves. It's got a red dragon color from what I heard in YouTube.

What do you mean by "the signal"? |

You need fuel, air, spark and compression for it to fire. If you haven't already:
Clean the carb and poke out all the passages and jets. Replace all the fuel tap vacuum hoses. Check the air filter element. Make sure it isn't falling apart in the air box. Make sure the rubber snorkel that goes from the filter to the carb doesn't have any tears or cracks. You already checked for spark and while it's weak, you still got it. I'd exclude timing since it's a major pain to get to the stator and adjust it. Replace the spark plug with the correct one listed in a service manual. Lastly get a compression tester and see what you're getting cranking the engine over. It should be 120+ psi. If it's nothing even close check your valve lash. Keep working on it! Good luck

Is closing the spark plug hole with your finger an ok way to check the pressure? I tried it and it seems like no real pressure is coming out. Do i need a head overhaul? How much is that? I would like to do it myself if i can. Maybe you need to buy me a a pressure gauge just to make sure I hope it fits in there. I also need the way to check my valves keep its adjusted right. Is there any and YouTube I have to check? Just can't wait to get this thing running. The last owner wanted to to ride it for a little bit once I get it running. And I'm going to let him.

That's 743 miles, few enough that I don't think valve and compression problems are very likely. From the story so far, I'd be more inclined to suspect a fuel delivery or electrical problem.
Could you get more details from the previous owner? What if anything did the shop do? Good luck! |

When you check the compression be sure the throttle is open full. Its best to kick start it when you check for compression. With the gauge in place it takes 5-6 kicks and a little with the starter motor to get the full compression reading. most auto parts stores rent compression gauges. Make sure you get the adaptor that matches your spark plug.
Your lights and choke/enricher only work when the engine is running, they power off the stator. When you clean the carburetor be sure to take it apart and clean every hole. Look through the jets and be sure you see light. If you google scooter carb cleaning you'll find more videos than you need. Keep us posted on your progress. |

The shop I guess troubleshoot it and told him it's the valves and also put the rear signal and brake wires wrong.

Okay I put a compression tester on this and I'm getting some 165 PSI. So I think it's something else now. I know I'm getting some Sparks on a spark plug. Anybody chime in what to do next thank you very much. I need to put a new carburetor on it so I can get it out of the equation.

Carburetor have fuel and the spark is blue and I think it should be good enough. I'll take the spark plug again and do a video of the spark.

I'd be inclined to sling new jets in it too.
2007 with 700 miles? How old is the fuel? And you've definitely got a fully charged battery in it? |

Replace the vacuum line that runs from the carb manifold to the fuel tap.
The speedo says 743 miles.

I want to thank you all for being so patient with me. I finally got my Piaggio 50 fly to work. I replace the coil even though I Can See Spark but I guess it wasn't quite strong enough even though it's a blue Spark. The scooter really runs Smooth. I got it running up to 30 miles per hour without adjusting anything yet. I hope I can get up to at least 40 this is a nice 50cc for a stroll type of travel. I would not try to make it regular Street Rider till it starts to keep up with the traffic. But it's still a pretty bike. I want to thank you all for helping me diagnose this and I hope I can help some of you later on down the line. I love this website and I hope it's keeps on helping. And it is 750 miles or so and not 75 like I said I stand corrected. I thought had
Tenths on last digit.
