Modern Vespa

Because when some loser tips your bike over and doesn't leave a note you still have one pristine scoot. Someone either backed in to or knocked over my BMW and did not leave a note

Funny I think I would be more upset if it was the Vespa. still it's going to cost me a right drop protection panel on the floorboard, a bar end weight and right mirror. So still going to be probably $1,000. What surprises me is they picked it up if it went over and the alarm would have been going. I noticed this morning when I went down to go for a ride. Don't think t happened in the parking garage but will have the security footage review. Not a happy camper today.

That just stinks. I'm sure BMW panels don't come cheap either. It is good to have spares though. Especially with nice weather coming.

That's maddening! If you ride your scoot and leave it parked downtown, I'd be inclined to leave it as is, in case it happens again. We need bikes only parking lines like they do in many European cities.

Took my Vespa out once and we're back into the freezing temps.. Spring's late this year

insurance probably would but it's not worth it as the premium will just go up. Probably best I just suck it up and pay myself. One big concern is it takes them forever to get parts for the C650 so I may be waiting a while. a well, good thing I love my GtV!

Sucks but could have been worse since you weren't on it when it went down. Good luck with the repairs.

Sorry to hear about your damage. Its one of the joys of owning a motorcycle/scooter. Same thing happened to my GS 750 many moons ago.

It's even handier to have three, or four.......

Damn insurance racket where you can't make a claim without having your premium go up. Thats the biggest scam that goes on legally.

I know it's long odds, but if the security video shows an identifiable vehicle, or a witness is found, then you can put in an insurance claim and your insurance company would recoup their expense from the other guys company and your rate won't go up.

Strange how you consider paying for a third scoot and insuring three scooters (when you can only ride one at a time) but you worry about your insurance rate maybe going up. Probably won't go up as much as another purchase will cost you.

Yeah insuring a vintage 180 or 200 CC scoot shouldn't be bad. I do OK,I can afford my insurance to go up but what's the point if not going through insurance works out about the same? Less hassle doing it myself. I feel bad for people that can't afford it themselves and have to go through the insurance company. It screws you in the end the way the system is setup.

It would be great if the security cameras fund something. But a long shot for sure.

I feel for you. Hopefully it'll show up on the CCTV. I have 2 scooters. The vino is used for market runs and hauling stuff. Vespa is kept in a shed and the Vino stays outside. I let my friend use the Vino but nobody gets the Vespa. Well if someone from here stopped in for a visit i'd let them ride it. If they don't own one they get the Vino. Vino just got a makeover and it's fun to ride now. Amazing what new shocks and muffler will do for it. 8)

Tell that to herself. I have two people tire kicking the S150. Two scooters is my limit apparently.

Just got back from BMW. Came to $1,200 for parts and they will do it for $1,000. About what I figured and not worth going through insurance for. If I didn't have the drop protection kit it would have been worse.

I needed a more powerful ride for longer trips and my wife, reasonably enough says we don't need two 150cc bikes and hers is the ET4 by rights so the orange S150 is for sale. Lots of interest in theboranfe scooter so I fesrbit will sell.
Oh well. The Burgman 200 is proving to be just right which surprises me.

Well, probably still cheaper then if it were the GTS...and if not, at least the panels will be new and everything back to as new.

I need a posse to take down my wife. She rather undercut me when she pointed out the S150 ( mine) and the ET4(somewhat hers) are identical.
The dog is welded to me at the hip. He prefers this life to being on the streets of Miami.

Wait... if the ET4 and the S are identical (as she claims), sell the ET4 and give her the S to use. That way you get to keep it in the family, and ride it on occasion.

(I'm biased, having an orange S150 myself -- oh, and a white Burgman 200 too.)

Below is from property management . Turns out the camera doesn't get our spot but the door next to it. So I'm pretty sure they have it but probably not enough imperial evidence as they don't have the bike on camera being dropped. There would be. fair amount of commotion though as a 650 pd bike takes a bit to pick up.

I really sorry to hear about this hit & run. I think we all fear this sort of thing, but I would have expected it on the street, rather than in your parking garage.

One of the unfortunate aspects of bikes with plastic is that they break when things fall over. And the plastic bits are expensive. As a friend of mine once observed, the natural portion for a motorcycle is on its side; we're always fighting gravity with two-wheelers.

Are you sure your insurance premium will go up. It was not your fault. Maybe someone here on MV with insurance expertise could weigh in on this type of situation. I would like to know more myself.

If your insurance has to pay out money, your rates will go up.

My spot is off camera, just the doors are caught. There are 2 garage doors, the one for the town houses is directly in front on my spot in the tower parking lot. What they caught is a wheel trans vehicle (disabled public trans) backing right up in to my spot where the BMW would have been parked. So nothing caught on cam and no sound on the video. So purely circumstantial but the only thing that really makes sense. Hard to see how it could have missed the bike. The property manager mentioned getting a barrier to put in front of my spot to protect the bikes. I'd have to move the barrier every time I go out but it's probably worth it.

Going through the insurance would make it go up and be a PITA. BMW is going a little easy on me on the repair. The repair plus labour will come in under $1,500 which I can afford. TBH I could just ride the bike as is but it would drive me nuts. On a vintage scoot I can live with the bike having some "character" but not a 2017 C650.

I am really glad I have my GTV and I've been riding it only for the last few weeks. I love the Vespa anyway so not really a huge deal. Besides it's pothole dodging season in Toronto and there are some real doozies this year. The Vespa is better suited to the sport and I'm enjoying the new Bitubo shocks.

It is tough discussing insurance questions on this international forum because coverage and what drives pricing varies a great deal between countries and even States in the USA. All insurance rules and rates are local.

What has really changed in recent years is levels and levels of discount tiers to help keep rates down. If you lose one or two of these tier discounts your price
can go up even if the loss is not your fault. Example, discount tiers for
(a) Accident Free in 5 Years, (b) Violation Free in 3 Years, (c) +A Credit.

So, good luck. Partner with a decent insurance dude you can trust.

Insurance Metaphor: Just like Rent for your apartment. It does not matter how many months you have paid it. Rent is due next month and the @&$% landlord might raise it.

Correct. If you are hit and run, no one can identify the at fault party
to collect from. Consequently, (If you have Full Coverage) you would have
to fall back on your policy and pay your deductible. If you only have
liability insurance, your scoot is not covered for collision. You are on your own.

On balance, many older two wheelers are not worth full coverage because their value is so low. My 2007 Suzuki Burgman 400 with 40k miles looks like it
came off the dealership show room. What is it worth - nothing - maybe $500.

The other problem with most M/C or scooters is they are usually total losses
if they are in an accident. Total loss meaning the cost of repair exceeds the
market value of the machine. Insurance will pay the max of the market value of your machines less your deductible.

First beautiful day of spring! Just got in from a great ride on the Vespa. Oh it felt good...

Well after having the parts delivered from Deutschland and 3 weeks of it being at BMW the girls are reunited. It did take about half an hour for me to get used to the BMW again as the weight and handling are quite a bit different. At least the won't be lonely overnight anymore With parts and labour under $900 so could have been worse.
