I will be attending a Moto Guzzi "Not-A-Rally". How will you celebrate, or show your support?

When I was a littlle kid, I remember that we did a project in school where we made cards and little planters (in which we put soil and a little flower), to give to our mothers on mother's day.
When I brought mine home, my mom thanked me, gave me a hug and said, "I love the gift you made me, but do you really need a special day to give you an excuse to show that you love your mother? Let's make a deal, from now on every day will be David day for me, and every day will be mothers day and father's day for you. Deal?" That stayed with me. We never made a big deal out of such 'Hallmark Holidays', and genuinely made an effort to 'honor' each other as often as possible. I guess what I'm saying is that I love the idea of International Female Ride Day. But I'm less enthusiastic about the reality that we have to set aside a day for it. IMHO special dates that fill up the calendar are fun, but not strictly necessary. In a perfect world special dates would be only for commemorating really wonderful things (religious holidays, independence day, etc.), and really sad things (memorial day, national or international tragedies, the deaths of great people, etc.). But I know I'm being a kill joy here... and I'm certainly not coming out against such a celebration of Female Riders. Any excuse for a big ride is fine by me... and the empowerment of any group (especially if they have historically felt ignored or neglected) is as good an excuse as any. Ride on!

My version of what Treppenwitz said above-
I am all for women being fully engaged in whatever they choose and in a fair and equal manner but I don't really "get" having girl days of any kind either. I have 6 grand daughters and they all get the real world treatment from me-whatever that is-ha!? When I started coaching a local rules, little league team our 3 sons were all playing at the same time after the first year. When I got my own team the 2nd year (I'd already coached baseball a lot) I advocated for girls getting to play. That success was followed by saying it made no sense for a local rule that girls always batted off the tee & I was over ruled on that one. I drafted 2 girls my last year and won it all. neither was that good but one was a starter on my team. The one coach who was the main obstacle to girls playing and the bat off the tee rule is now a State Legislator- makes you wonder if he's still a stiff when it comes to females? When I was in HS girls still played inter-mural basketball, softball, volleyball only. I felt then that the fact that girls could compete in swimming & golf but not any other sports was a class distinction not just sex based discrimination. That came from my being a golf caddy and seeing who got trained to swim & golf. My point is that everyday actions matter more than having girl days. Ride if you like it. When I started riding it was thought of mostly as a lowlife activity as the societies mainstream didn't ride of either sex. |

Well, I hasten to add...
Female Ride day....Naked Gardening Day... Cinco de Mayo... (Kentucky) Derby Day... What more could one ask for? So I will be riding my GTV with my wife-naked-carrying a rake, taco and mint julip. Can't hardly beat that! Unless I crash. In which case the first responders will have to sort out two drunk naked people with a taco on the end of a rake... ![]()

I'm not much of a "Daythis and that person" (well maybe a grita or Victoria cause it's Cinco de Mayo), but if the sun comes up for me I'm good to go!
