I've noticed our roads here in much worse shape than I ever remember....it does creep up on you, though. I've seen various articles about state rankings, but the numbers keep sliding around. A year ago I'd taken a county road on a ride to visit my mother and it was so bumpy I swore my fillings would come out. I actually get excited when I get to a section of smooth road. Unfortunately, seems like local entities fix the worst sections of a bad road, which may only be a quarter mile or so before the money runs out.

They're finally rebuilding the street in front of my office....about time, as the asphalt is turning to gravel in increasingly large areas.

I halfway see myself moving up to a larger-wheeled (offroad?) PTW if this doesn't improve.

We've been at a political impasse for some time with the party in control failing to come to agreement on what to do. So, we do nothing. Crying or Very sad emoticon

Just found this graphic showing road conditions around the country. Definitely makes me want to ride OUT of my state....

Glancing at this, I think that, like crash stats, these actually mainly show which states have the most paved roads, so it's maybe post hoc and actually simply reveals that more paved road surface = more surface to maintain.

??

I mean the chart shows Idaho as fairly well maintained, but that's because the vast majority our roads are gravel.

Well don't come here. Were just as bad. Hasn't helped that we've had rain for weeks. Seems like their putting all the money in the bank for the useless rail. Livid emoticon Livid emoticon I've worn out my rear shocks.

Well, at least you have pineapples. Razz emoticon

Not sure what they're doing with the money.....we nixed rail besides.
Oh, yeah. Tax breaks. Because we obviously don't like anything taxes buy for us, like roads.

I like your town. It reminds me of my town. Right down to the lousy roads. I swear they're afraid if they actually fix the roads the funding won't increase as fast as it might. But the scenery is nice and the roads, if not smooth, are at least varied. When I was younger a family from Fond du Lac put me up for the Pepsi Lowenbrau bike race series (formerly Superweek/Wisconsin Milk Race). It's a nice area with friendly people. I have fond memories.

I don't remember the roads being so rough when I lived in Fond du Lac, but it has been about a decade since moving.

Occasional potholes are not so bad. They keep low speed riding/driving entertaining and provide me an excuse to offer to LEOs for why I am weaving all over the place.

LEOs apparently don't take the "I'm weaving because of the potholes" excuse much in Wisconsin. We have problems in this arena, and it's not just the roads..

Not surprised NH is in a 'red' block - some the roads/streets up here are miserable... When I'm visiting DE, I most always realize how much better the roads are...

One of the reasons I moved to the BV 350 was the piss poor condition of many roads in the Northern Virginia area. Potholes, disintegrating asphalt, just didn't want to ride on that crap with 12 inch wheels anymore. Every state has its issues, but in Virginia, road repaving is a responsibility of the state DOT. When I lived in Fairfax County, the one block street in my subdivision was a DOT paving responsibility. 2 years ago, I told my State Senator that the potholes in a major road in my area were big enough to swallow one of my wheels. Late that summer, the road finally was repaved.

VDOT App on my phone and email of my state reps. I report bad road conditions on the app, if it's not fixed I email my reps.

Forgot to add that every rental car has a road tax included in the fee. Where that money goes is beyond me. Somebodies getting rich because the roads aren't fixed.

Oh, golly, yes: Asbury has more than its share of Baja-grade streets and roads, although the city is working somewhat more fervently to get things fixed (had a conversation with our Mayor - actually, a pretty cool and attentive guy - who sheepishly admitted to took way too long to get funding coordinated. Our street, which was abysmal well before we moved here, finally had work started just before winter, with final work getting done as soon as weather is a bit less wayward, meaning riding Melody will be less of a reenactment of the mechanical bull sequence from Urban Cowboy. (BTW, in some spots here, bigger wheels alone won't always help - you'll want to be rocking an ADV.)
