1966 Vespa 125. Current owner bought it 15 years ago. All he has done is rebuilt carb and replaced gear cables. He doesn't know anything else as far as seals, barrings, clutch, cruciform, etc. still have points. Says it runs and shifts nice. Asking $1500. Is this too much of a gamble? Am I asking for a world of hurt?

'66 125 sounds like it might be a Super, does it have 8 inch wheels? The price is OK if it's in pretty good shape, but pics and more description would help. Also get the frame and engine numbers so you can learn more here: https://scooterhelp.com/serial/ves.serial.numbers.html
Is the paint original and what condition, is the body straight & essentially rust free, does it run well enough to avoid an engine rebuild soon, clean title w/ no back fees included - these are some of the things you want to find out and consider when setting the price. Here's a couple informative threads by somebody who started out much like you: Help! Shopping for first NSM. From Dreamer to Owner, now what? |

![]() This is a '66 VNB, the last year for them. Doesn't look too terrible, but it has been well used and hard to tell, but possibly repainted at some point. Odd, looks like they stuck a Rally bench seat on it without removing the original package tray. Here's th ad: https://boston.craigslist.org/nwb/mcy/d/1966-vespa-125/6578052844.html |

I like it.. okay price as long as it doesn't need anything major fixed.
Is this your first 8" tire Vespa? |

It would be - yes. Although I am on the fence about it. Don't really want to deal with points.

Nothing wrong with points. I'd be more concerned if somebody put in a cheap electronic conversion.

Nope, the seller says all original wiring. How hard it is to up grade to stator and 12v system? Expensive?

Don't upgrade... points are easy once you get the hang of it.
