Here's a picture of my new seat. The old seat had holes in it from the previous owner. I found a really nice piece of leather, and a local guy recovered it for me. The PIAGGIO badge is a vintage item from Scooter West. For more pics, including photos of the old seat, go to my scooter-man Instagram page.

Really nice job. I was thinking about putting a new leather saddle on my GTS but the prices are outrageous. Might just have somebody do a similar job on my seat. What did you pay to have it done (inc materials and labor)?

When I first bought the scooter, the seat had a lot of pockmarks on it. The dealer who was selling it on consignment said that the owner was a very short old man, who had trouble reaching the ground, so I guess he sort of tipped from one foot to the other and wore the holes on the seat. It only had 1800 miles when I bought it. I checked on getting a new seat, but the prices are $$$$!!!! I was at the State Fair of Oklahoma last September. There was a booth with all sorts of leather goods and large pieces of leather. The guy said that they had some smaller scrap pieces. I looked through them and found one. $30.00!! Then, at the Cycle Gear bike night last month, I met an old dude with a ton of rare motorcyles. He gave me the name of a guy in Midwest City that he uses. Took the scooter and leather to the guy, Sonny's Auto Trim, and asked him what he would charge to recover the seat. He looked and said '$75.00'. I thought, Holy Moly! How long would it take? A day. !!! Then, I showed him some photos of nice Vespa seats that I had taken while in Dallas. I said, How much to put in pleated areas and French seams? $125.00. Total price. It took him less than 5 hours. What a bargain!! I have some of the leather left over. I was thinking about covering the glove box lid, and the hand grips. Not sure how easy it would be.

Sounds great. Regarding the glove box, try to wrap a piece of the leather around the door or just tuck a piece at various points around the door and check how the door closes. I think you will find that you may be able to force the door closed, but I prefer to not force anything. Your scoot, so do as you please, but you should check the impact of the mod prior to spending your cash. Good Luck
