Modern Vespa

When I stop at a light for a little while the idle will develop an erratic miss, like it skips or something.

At first I thought the spark plug might be failing prematurely, so I replaced it but the problem persists.

What else can I check? Thanks.

Replace the carburetor with fuel injection?

Seriously, mine does that too - it's a single-cylinder carbureted engine, there's nothing you can do about it.

A guy on an old Triumph was stopped at a light today. I admired his bike as I walked by and just at that moment it died. It took him 3 or 4 kicks to get it started again. Look on the bright side - modern engines, even carbureted ones, are much more refined and reliable than they used to be - as long as it's not stalling out when you're at a light it's ok.

Check the needle valve and the carburettor float for proper height. I suspect that is where your issue lies. Good Luck!...
