I have waiting for years for someone to come up with a way to do that. I originally thought about flipping it toward the back, but could not work out the details. I did not consider doing it your way as I thought the seat would be in the way. I never thought about removing the seat. Kudos!

Um... I hate to be a killjoy, but I always thought the Vespa chassis was monocoque construction, with the fixed attachment of the body to internal frame members providing a "stressed skin" construction that contributes to overall chassis strength and stiffness.
How did you get around that? |

That's only true for the classic Vespas. All modern Vespas have an auxiliary support frame in the rear. And that's been reinforced in this build: http://vespaforum.de/viewtopic.php?p=641033#p641033

And that's been reinforced in this build: http://vespaforum.de/viewtopic.php?p=641033#p641033 ![]() ... and Vespa itself touts the modern scooters as monocoque. Having an internal frame structure doesn't disqualify a chassis from being monocoque construction. In fact it is the attachment of the internal frame to the skin -- along with the reliance on that attachment to make the skin an integral part of the frame -- that makes it monocoque. While I understand that the internal frame has been beefed up, it sure looks to me like -- given the space constraints -- there is little that could be done to substitute for the stiffness the attached body provides to counteract torsional loads. I'm a betting man... I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that -- compared to a stock-chassis GTS -- the back end of that thing shimmies like my sister Kate. Give the Piaggio engineers a little credit for knowing what they are doing when designing a chassis for optimum stiffness. It seems like a big price to pay for better engine access. MHO. |

That's something different!
I have to confess, that I stared at the first picture and wondered what heck is this tittle about...until I looked the other pics. |

This project kinda reminds me of this classic "Red Green Show" episode in which Red decides to install gullwing doors on an old beater American sedan:
To quote Red: "If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy." |

My first thought having seen the initial pics: Honda's PC800
It confirms my thought a trunk can be added to a scooter to make the underseat storage more utilitarian without significantly changing the outline of the bike. Jerry
