Hi Ya'll,
I'm in the process of getting the castellated nut off of the center of my back wheel on my VNB and before I crank it too hard (it's a bit stuck and soaked with WD40 right now), I wanted a confirmation that it in fact loosens by turning counter clockwise.
Thanks.

When you take it off, be sure to store it in the correct location:

Then, get one of these and don't look back!

If you haven't got one already, go out any buy a hexagonal (six sided) socket specifically for this nut. Then you can apply real force without fear of it slipping.

Why would you use a "self locking" clutch nut on the rear axle? It's not even the same size...

Even it one could find the right size, I would still feel better about having the added security of the cotter pin.

...and..
one of my fav home made tools make this job easy.

Get an old rim..or use your spare with no rubber on.

Get a bolt(or threaded rod) and two nuts and fix it solid in the valve hole with a nut either side of the hole....about 150 mm needs to stick out

Bolt this contraption on to the hub .

as you turn the 22mm nut the hub and rim will turn until the bar sticking out hits against the engine swing arm area and locks the wheel solid.

Kind of like the flywheel lock.

I did it on the side of the road once..removed the tube and tyre from the spare and stuck a screwdriver in the valve hole.....bolt the rim ...rotate till it locks on something solid ... then work on your nut......works for tighten and loosen.

I know of no other better way to lock the rear wheel by myself

Ah sorry! I saw the words "castellated nut" and thought clutch straight away. In that case, please ignore me and carry on!
