Me again. Hello everyone, and happy spring Last year was my first year riding and I wondered when I uncovered the Vespa for the first time this spring whether I'd even be interested in riding anymore. I have a tendency to go full-bore on things for a while and fizzle out, you see.

Well, it took all of two seconds to figure out that would not be the case with this scoot 8) I had to take the blog down for personal reasons, which sucks, but I'll continue to share adventures here!
Lucrezia rides again!
Lucrezia rides again!
And this is my new puppy, Scout. He's already too big to ride in the basket, alas.

Welcome Back!

My good friend Lostboater saw a Harley Davidson rider in Perry, Florida a year or so ago.

As usual he struck up a conversation.

Of interest was that the biker had some advice for Ken

He said "Ride Fast, Take Chances"

From then on, that has become our motto for rides.

Tongue in cheek of course.

Sorry about the blog issues.

The Russians are taking over Rocket and Me again.

But I carry on.

It becomes much more readable during the Cannonball Runs. And one is coming soon.

Bill

Welcome back!

Sorry about the blog, it was a fun read.

Love the pup, but I'm a massive sucker for dogs

Enjoy getting back in the saddle and hopefully we see you posting here. The more the merrier as they say and you've always had a way with words.

I much prefer "Ride Fast, Take Chances"

It is simply more fun, without worrying about the consequences.

You could make stickers. I would buy one.

I do write for them from time to time! I haven't generated much scoot-specific content lately, though.

Scout is actually a sheepadoodle, so you're not far off. His mom was a standard poodle, dad was an Old English Sheepdog. He's about 4 months old now and should top out around 55 lbs.

Be sure to take it easy at first. Riding skills deteriorate when not used for a while. Practice some panic stops and slow speed tight turns in an empty parking lot. After a few riding sessions, those skills will begin to comeback.

Hi, Bex, missed you lots! (Was wondering about the blog...)

I like to live by a slogan Giro (the bike helmet folks) used a handful of years ago: "Live Fast, Die Old." Works quite well for me.

Good to see you and Lucrezia are an item again.

Ride fast...or read fast?
I must admit, I like both -

Go fast, don't die

- and -

Ride fast, take chances

And, okay, the Go Fast Don't Die stickers are pretty awesome.

But being an inveterate reader aka book junkie, I think the general principle can apply not merely to scootering but also to...reading. And Powell's Books up in my adopted home state of Portland, Oregon, agrees - and even have printed the message up on my favorite tee-shirt ---

These slogans motivate me to share the competition by the Fininnish Motorcycle Association: the slowest motorist

The rules are simple: you have a 20m long and 1,5m wide straigh lane.

Your task is simply to ride through this distance as slow as possible. BUT, the bike have to move all the time, you are not allowed to stop even if you could do this.

It's more difficult than it sounds and measures well riding skills - any fool can ride WOT, but this requires skills...

It's also easy to try. If you can do over 60 sec, you'd do good in the local competition!

Based on my one, six-mile, white-knuckle experience in snow and ice last January, I think I could ace this.

I saw something similar at (ahem) a Harley event. It was either a police rodeo or a regular Harley event, I can't recall. Similar idea, but in a standard U.S. parking space, about 20 feet in length. The winner rode the length of the space in FOUR MINUTES. Probably had no clutch left at the end.
Which leads me to believe it was a Police rodeo because at one, those guys told me they go thru a set of floorboards a month:
"Hell, I ain't paying for them."

Hmm. Go fast, don't die. Sounds a bit like "There are old bikeis and bold bikies but there are no old, bold bikies".
