Have you added a little aluminum baffle to the cowl to stop the cooling air short circuiting?
There is a picture on here somewhere.
I vaguely remember a post about adding a baffle to the engine to divert cooling air toward the head. Can't find it now...
I hadn't considered it before, but you've planted the idea in my head...

We don't know yet that it actually is an overheating problem... sure it seized but may be more related to timing.

True. Or mixture. Or who- knows- what.

The good news is the bike actually has more power than I need, so I can afford to trade some off in exchange for reliability. It'll do over 70 (113 kph) true, uphill with a headwind. I don't actually need to go that fast. 65 is fine, so long as I can do it all day long without breaking down.
If I need to back the timing down further to control the temps, I can do that.

Best,
-Slashy

I'm curious -- what is this aluminum baffle you speak of?

It's something my mate Rolf came up with, said it made a noticable difference.

Huh, really. What's it do? Direct more air straight at the head, where it counts?

It's meant to stop a short circuit... next time you have the cowl off have a look at the space there.

Just got the CHT gauge today. They don't give you much wire to work with, do they?

TT makes different length extensions, but the only way most people know that is if they bought one of those TTO gauges in the past...and have come up short.

It would be interesting to do a before and after with ones of those TTO gauges.

Slashy the probe is a thermistor and is not polarity conscious so you can extend the wire yourself with some 2 wire cable.

Unfortunately he changed something else (possibly the head if memory serves) at the same time and the difference was something like 10 degrees C. I have asked him a number of times to take it off and test again but he never gets around to doing it.

That's a good point to bring up. I wanted a super clean looking wire harness, and since i live fairly close to TT, i drove over there and bought the correct extension length that i needed. It was my OCD, and probably not worth it for 98% of the general population.

...google search "zip wire" if anyone wants to make their own 2 wire extension.
