I just registered to the Advanced Motorcycle course which is free in my area, but it seems to be only 10 hours...

What are good courses to take that actually reduce your chances of having an acident (I'd pay for that)? What exactly is covered by the course?

Presume you already took the basic course, so the advanced course is a major step in the right direction. If you use the knowledge gained in both courses and are comfortable with the controls on your scooter, you should be good to go. My advice is to always be aware of road conditions, weather, and always presume that you are invisible to most cars and those that do see you are out to get you. Ride defensively and enjoy every minute in the saddle...

Can't help you with course content, but I'd say that ANYTHING that helps you master riding skills is a big step in accident avoidance.

It's oft-repeated here, but any of David Hough's motorcycling books have some great information. Also, if you haven't checked out the MSF website, they seem to have some online training that's likely to give some good information.

I cannot learn something like this from a book. Any references to video classes or online classes?

I might look up Keith Codes old videos and of course more modern pod casts by Ken Hill.

I really like David Hough as one or two others have mentioned.

Probably the book I've read is Total Control Performance Street Riding Techniques by Lee Parks. I have also gone to a Total Control weekend advanced riding clinic, which they do at various spots around the country and was really helpful to me in feeling more confident riding.
