I bought my wife a 2009 250ie and she can not get it off the center stand. So I decided to add a side stand. I have read all of the reviews of people having problems with the side stand folding up on them very easily, so here is my fix. I did some grinding on the forward section of the stand so the stand will swing farther forward past the return pull effect. The springs are attached in the original location. With the new location the original stand was to short so i cut off the small foot, welded on an extension and a bigger foot so it will not sink into the ground. With the new stand being longer now you have to actually lean the vespa to the right to get the stand to go up so some one bumping it can not knock it over. I still want to figure out how to add a stand switch just to be safe but as it is you can not miss the stand sticking out

Excellent Design
wtwtw,

I do not have a problem getting my Vespa 300 up on the center stand.
It is just a whole lot more convenient to have a side stand so you do not
have to balance it before mounting. Prevents dropping the scoot in the
garage.

So, I had a side stand installed on my 300 - but, it has just the problem
you suggested. To easy to be knocked over with a slight bump while on the side
stand. Your forward of the balance fulcrum was brilliant.
