Just wanted to give people a heads up. Today I received the official recall notice letters from Piaggio USA regarding the GTS exhaust recall. Actually I received two of them. One for my GTS and one for my wife's GTS. So, if you are in the US and have one that might be affected, the letters are likely on the way.

The letter has three different parts. The first is a two page description of the recall, what is impacted, your vehicle is in the VIN range and what you should do to get the recall work done. The next part is a Tread Act notice for reimbursement if you already had work done that would be covered by the recall. Finally, there is a customer information notice card if you sold the scooter or your address has changed.

I'm trying to hold off a bit before I schedule my recall repair as both our scooters are getting close (400 and 500 miles) to the first service. I figure I would just schedule them at the same time.

What were the recall VIN ranges? What exactly is the problem?

i went to my vespa dealer to ask about it on aug 8. he said he had made a list of the affected scoots that they had sold and mine wasn't on it. i asked him to check anyways and it was. he said he was trying to figure out how many parts they needed to order then start calling us one by one. haven't heard from them. i think i'll go down there soon as i haven't been riding the GTS too much because of this... and i finally found a scooter club in merced but i'm kinda hesitant to ride the GTS there

My dealer replaced mine as soon as the VIN numbers were out and didn't wait for the letter since mine had begun to fail at 4600 miles or so.

Got the letter on Friday. Got a letter from Ford with a recall for my Ranger truck.

Now I just need to wait for one from Volkswagen and we will be a triple winner!

I am curious though about how long one of these gaskets should last. Anyone here of a use range? They have to wear out sometime.

Mine came in the mail also, the question is since I live 75 miles from my dealer, and really don't have the time right now to get the scooter to them, I wonder is this something I can fix if they ship me the part, or does it have to be fixed by them?

Yep, got my letter Friday. But, and you can throw rotten veg if you want (hahaha!), I can't find the info on MV about the VIN numbers. Are you saying that everything before VIN 4598 needs the part replaced? I am 3779.
