Hi All,

A question for you: Our local motorcycle shop is selling Indian-market Vespa SXL150's and they're a quite a bit cheaper than the Italian built 125 Vespas.

Does anyone know anything about these? Are they built from the same parts, just assembled in India? Does anyone have any experience of the quality? What about the sheet metal? Is it the same as European/USA destined Vepas?

Thanks for any info you can give.

Cheers,

Ken

Google....does Vespa make scooters in India.... It seems like an active and legit business undertaking by Piaggio. Interesting information.

Hi,

Yes, I'm an IT guy so trust me, I did google before posting They are legit and built by Vespa in India. Vespa also build in the Phillippines. In both cases the bikes are intended for local markets.

There's lots of reviews of the bikes from the Indian market but no real "quality" discussions. I did find one comment from one guy who thought the Italian bikes worth the money but the Indian bikes not but his English wasn't good so not too much detail to go into.

I was posting on here to see if one of our "insiders" knew anything or perhaps even some Vespa fans in India who might have direct experience.

Cheers,

Ken

Looks like a regular 3-Valve engine but not the latest i-Get. No fuel injection but a carburettor so should be OK.

If the price is right why not? Can't be any worse than one made in Vietnam?

They do make them but aren't they branded LML?

Using my l33t IT skillz I dug up a few vids that may be handy. Not so sure I can get the Babel Fish working today though, think the Johnson Rod is broken.

waspmike, You're right! They're carbureted! Ahhh....that's interesting. I have no problem with that - the less electronics the better I think. Carbs are cheaper of course too....Hmm...Interesting!

First off, it has nothing to do with LML. LML is dead and was a company producing "vintage" shifty models, under license. This one is made by Piaggio, just in a cheaper market. It has the H.E. 3V engine which as you mentioned, comes with a carb and a MAP sensor. I believe it hasn't got an immobilizer. If it comes with the same warranty, parts are available and money is a factor, I would go with the cheaper version and not worry much...

The engine's specs...

And a video I found. Looks great...

Did you even bother to see the video?? And I believe you are thinking LML, which is a whole different story...

Indian built bikes have come a long way in the last 5 years. I wouldn't have any quality concerns buying newer stuff.

Best,

And again, it's not an LML, it's made by PIAGGIO. LML has been dissolved a few months back...

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all of the above.

As a few people have said, this is not LML. This is Piaggio/Vespa built in India. Bike has disc front brake, 3 valve engine but is carburated and has no immobilizer. I note it also has a kickstart which my S125 does not! No harm in that when the battery is flat!

I must admit, I'm quite tempted! If I pull the trigger, I'll let you all know.

Cheers,

Ken
