My multi-language owner's manual states that engine oil level is to be checked "after completely unscrewing the oil cap/dispstick".

The Piaggio service manual pdf states, " Undo cap/dipstick, dry it off with a clean cloth and reinsert it, screwing down completely. - Remove the cap/dipstick again and check that the level is between the MIN and MAX reference marks; top up if necessary. "

I am able to maintain an oil level on the dipstick to agree with each statement - but which is correct?
Screwed in , or just pushed in without threading?

Yes check dipstick after it has been fully screwed in then removed again

Thanks.
Certainly room for confusion here. Wondered just how someone would check the oil level on the dipstick without "completely unscrewing it".
Translated owner's manuals are fun. This baby is in 4 languages.
My Taiwanese scooter manual is a very funny bed time read, and it's only attempting one language.
