My uncle left some records behind and some people wanted to trash them. About 100 records with sleeves. I saw "Hard day's night" and I could not let it happen.

I have no idea how to deal with these records. They may or may not be valuable. Fucking Capt and Tenille..............

What should I do? Enjoy them? Sell them?

My wife inherited several hundred 78"s with out the covers, just bland sleeves.
It took forever to find someone who wanted them. With covers they had value, without not. Finally, the library in Sarasota said the would love to have them and there they rest.

If you have a decent record shop nearby sell or trade for credit if you don't wish to keep them. The market for used vinyl is thriving at the moment and prices are rising. If the titles are pretty common big sellers don't expect to get much unless you are lucky enough to have a particularly rare pressing.

Condition!

Condition is everything. Hipsters are listening to "authentic sound" on vinyl instead of the "antiseptic sound" on CD or mp3.

If you have a turntable, listen to them and smile. It's fun.

If not, don't expect much for these titles. If they're played, or there's scratches, they're not worth much to a collector.

Jazz... now that's where the money is at in vinyl. Unless you have rock rarities (like early pressing of White Album, or the butcher baby Beatles album)., most rock albums are worth small change.

If you can find a used record store, lug the whole lot in and see what they'll give you. Then report back... would love to know what they're worth.

Yep, eBay has pretty much evened out the change to have "local" rarities.

In vinyl the original date of pressing (not being a re-issue), catalog numbers (which are a mess to track down) and the numbers on the actual vinyl disc all are used in order to track how rare the one is.

Like my "Please Please Me" album in the pic is NOT the original print series from the year 1963, but a second batch from the original label.

I do have the original print of the "Abbey Road"...but unfortunetely, so do many other fellow. The price is somewhere around a few English pounds

Rock on...best to enjoy them yourself.
Album covers are also great art, stick the best to a wall.
The most difficult to forge is the number printed into the vinyl disc. It's the series of letters and numbers at the end sector of a record, barely visiible in the left hand side of this pic.

Try and sell them. In the early 2000's i still had a storage locker in NY. Didn't cost me much but i knew i was never going to move from here so i cleaned it out. Had a bunch of LP'S. Took them to a dealer in Troy NY and got some good money. About $400! I had some classic 70's ones and they got me top dollar. A few of mine were still in their plastic seal. You will get more money if they have no writing on them. I had a couple with my name on them. My college roommate had the same ones so we put our names on them. Even if you don't get that much do it. There are people out there that collect them. Good luck

Not true. Most of the really valuable rock LPs are things the majority of people have never heard of. I went to a four day music and camping festival last year on the proceeds I made from selling one obscure 7" garage rock single.

First thing to do is take them to your local record store. We have a shop in town that will take even "meh"-condition records to sell for a buck on the sidewalk and attract people in... you never know what they might value. Plus, you get in good graces with some nice local merchants!

Quite true....the little known strange little things are the ones with value. I sell books, and sometimes the little gems are self published memoirs. Limited availability, don't look like much, but there's a demand that is surprising.

Not bad. Now I dare to reveal the gem in my vinyl collection, if valued with money:

One of the rare releases of this.

It's lottery: the release of this album was a total mess. There are propably tens of different releases from the early years. At least many.

I bought mine many years after the release. It had been stacked among misc. stuff in one very non-professional record shop. I think I got a discount.

Value now: about 150 quids. Not on sale either, has sentimental value. I never was a big fan of the band, but had good times when bought this.

I collect vinyl and this is your best resource.

www.discogs.com

Discogs will tell you the real value (highest and lowest) and what people are paying. You can check values of records. The thing you need to understand is records aren't worth a lot. There are three things that contribute to the value:

1. Condition
2. Artist
3. Rarity

80% of records aren't worth more than a few bucks. The next 10% are new and in the $20 - $30 range. The last 10% of those are rare, hard to find, and aren't likely in the collection. Even the rarest aren't worth more than a few hundred bucks.

https://blog.discogs.com/en/discogs-top-100-most-expensive-records/

Remember, the Beatles sold MILLIONS of records so just because something is old, doesn't mean it's valuable. If you aren't into vinyl, you can use Discogs to sell the records. A local record store is likely going to be your worst option for selling but the easiest route to get rid of them. Use Discogs to see what fair value is for the record in MINT condition and expect less.

Get one of those gizmos that will make MP3's from the vinyl while it is still in good condition, listen the the MP3 all the time but compare it to the vinyl occasionally.

Above all, enjoy the music.

I mostly listen to music (yes, MP3's) in my vehicle. Vinyl is none too convenient there.

For some reason this thread came to my mind when we were at a music festival:

There was Burt Bacharach, age 90 yrs (!) at the stage. When we listened his 1hour15min gig, which he by the way did without a break, it was an amazing walk through of his hits - how in heck one guy can create so many "ear worms", pieces of music that just catches you so easily and become classics.

I have to confess I don't listen to his music that often, but was truly impressed of his set. He was also full of energy, making topical political jokes among other things....
