We were blessed with fairly warm weather in the last week here in Toronto. I wanted to cruise downtown and see how the Remus exhaust sound without the removable silencer. Seems like the bike doesn't run as smooth and throttle seems sluggish with it off. The bike is fuel injected so i figured that the ECU will make necessary adjustments should it need. Engine even died on me while trying to move from a parking spot. Any thoughts???

I'm not an expert in any way but from what I understand, the ECU programming is designed to work with the stock exhaust. When a significant change is made you have to install an adjusted map to allow things to work properly again.

just give it some time to adjust.
its better to run with the baffle in, as this creates some back pressure which helps the exhaust valves close. |

In principle like Guzzi Gal said.
I don't really know the Vespa systems, but the engine dying part sounds strange - typically you'll just loose a small amount of power because the exhaust design and thus exhaust gas flow is something very different than the rest of the engine specs. In general with fuel injected motorcycles, many workshops around globe with dynamometers have ran test trials comparing OEM exhausts and aftermarket exhausts without doing any other modifications to the bike. In the best case you'll loose just a little bit of power over the rev range, in the worse you'll loose a lot. These cases pop up from time to time in the net. So...just keep the silencer on, and the performance is close enough to the original |

I have what I assume is the same exhaust on a 2017 GTV. Can't remember if it seems to the have less power ad I have never bothered to put the baffle in. I'm heading to the cottage for a week today and taking the BMW. When I get back I'll test it out for you and put the baffle in. I'm taking the BMW up to the cottage and the Vespa is staying at home.
Performance on the scoot is great and it has plenty of pull. I have stalled out a few times at stops but only a few and I ride a lot (year round). The point regarding the ECU is a good one. Lou installed it for me though and did that for me. If you bought it from Lou maybe give him a call or drop by? I'm sure he'd be happy to help. Glad the rain is over and it looks like we're in for a nice long weekend. In about 5 hours I'll be in Port Dover and out of the Toronto traffic for a while! |

Harbinger, enjoy the cottage country, I know you mentioned you had property around Dover. Let me know how you experiment ends when you have a chance. |
