Hi,

just getting my Rally ready for the summer.
It's a 75 rally 200, but I find the sound louder and slightly tinny, (compared to how I remember it from old)

What is the best exhaust I can replace it with for good fit, compatibility and street legal.

I'd also would like it to be as quiet as possible,

Any recommendations would be great,

thanks, Troy

Hi Trojac

You didnt say what you have on there now? Ill assume a bulk standard Piaggio one.
I think you cant go far wrong with the SIP Road 2. Its never gonna sound like a Harley but for overall acceptable noise v price v performance go with this one.

Just to hijack your thread...does anyone know if I have to rejet if I change from a SIP Road to a SIP Road 2? I would think maybe not but worth an ask.
Cheers
Kevin

curiosity
Flying under the radar: Has anybody tried putting a silencer can on a stock muffler? Might be nice to just have a nice purr while scooting about .

I bought my first rally back about 4 years ago and in the 25 years or so that it wasn't mine its had many things replaced/updated so I don't know for sure.

If it's an original will it have a piaggio stamp on it?

Did this actually make a difference to the sound??

If you have a link to the type used that would be great, thanks

First of all, is there a chance that you have an expansion chamber exhaust on the scoot now? "Loud and tinny" fits the description of how they sound.

Looking at pictures on the web should make it easy to compare with yours. An expansion chamber pipe looks like a snakey trombone thing, and box type (which includes stock, as well as Sito and SIP Road) looks like a black pillow.

If it's a box type, I'm not sure how to determine which kind it is... Looking at pictures, it seems that a stock Piaggio box might have numbers (part number?) stamped on the left side.
Like others have said, a stock exhaust is as quiet as it gets, while other box types get a little louder, but have the benefit of delivering more power.

The SIP Road is popular, and while still a little bit louder than I'd personally like (I'm with you - quieter is better!), delivers a bit more of a throaty roar. Search Youtube - there are lots of audio samples (of varying quality and usefulness) of all kinds of pipes!

Thank you, I'll have a look on Friday when I'm home and see if it's an original piaggio exhaust or not
