If you've been following my saga, you'll know that my rear wheel is not yet on. Thus, my rear exhaust/muffler/silencer is off. While waiting for parts and tools, I took the time to also do some other work, most notably changing the engine oil/filter, changing the hub oil, and replacing the variator rollers. I'd like to run the bike (in its current stationary position) for about 5 minutes, and see if all is good in terms of leaks, etc. I know I can run the bike without the muffler piece (it will start), but should I do so?

slip the exhaust back on and hold it in place with some gloves or something. then run your engine for five minutes. it will be better on your hearing.

Thanks for thinking of my hearing. I used our insulating oven mitts to hold the exhaust in place while running the bike for 5 minutes. It worked. So far, no oil leaks and the transmission seems fine (although there is no rear wheel). Also, I can still hear! Thanks again to everyone for their help and (mostly) patience with a novice.
