One of the purposes of getting a Vespa was so that I could be the support rider when my wife trains for her aquabike races. (An aquabike is a triathlon without the running for those triathletes who have lost the ability to run due to their advancing decreptitude)
She usually gets out of work a little earlier than me, but texts me her route. I go home, hop on the scoot, and ride from the end of her route towards the start and we meet somewhere on the route. This is just so much fun! It allows me to be part of her training, be supportive, and see how she is improving. Once we meet up I ride ahead of her, stop, and wait for her to catch up. She has been surprising me as of late--I barely have the scoot turned off and up on the stand when I see her cresting a hill or flying around a corner. Not bad for 60!
The scoot allows me to bring extra water, some extra tools or innertubes in case of a flat, or if I really want to be a nerd, I bring a cowbell and ring it as she crests a hill.
For her part, she says that when she sees the little headlight coming toward her, it always makes the ride more fun. That's really wonderful, since those training rides can get a little lonely. It's great to have the ability to take part in them.
