Well, I've been unemployed for far too long and I've sold everything I'm willing to. At almost 35,000 miles and after a year or more of neglect on my part as I kept riding, the S needs more work than I can afford at the moment. Insurance and registration are coming due as well. Sunny weather...time to garage the scooter

Battery out on tender, drain the oil, drain the gas (ran out of gas on the way home trying to cut it close.) Any other tips?

Well, sorry, that kind of sucks. I think you're pretty well covered. Hope you don't have to leave the poor thing unattended for too long.

I would put some fresh oil in the crankcase rather than leave it empty. And do a startup with a small bit of gas to get the fresh oil moving through the engine and run it out of fuel again.

Once cooled down, stuff a rag in the exhaust to keep debris and pests out of it. A couple of mothballs behind the horncast, seat bucket, and in glove box will keep mice away from your wiring if that is an issue where you live.

Not sure if there is anything you can do with the carb to prep it; perhaps fog it with some carb cleaner.

Then cover her up for a nice long nap.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, hope things turn around for you soon.

Pour a bit of diesel (or similar oily very thin stuff) down the plug/hole.. then it's less likely he piston will seize.

Put something under the floor board (e.g. pet carrier) to raise the front wheel.

If the scoot/ any bike will be longer time unused, a general recommendation is to fill the oil right up to the stick - as full as possible. Then, when the scoot is taken into use, before starting it up, drain it all and fill new oil to the normal level.

As said above, unscrew the spark plug and put in a table spoon of...well, many use motor oil here too.

If any doupt about moisture, then the recommendation is also to fill the fuel thank as high as possible....assuming the tank is metal, I can't remember how it was with Vespa. But if the scoot is stored in a dry place, enpty tank should work well enough too.

And what's long time - because of the winter, my bikes stay unused at least 6 months per year. For this period, I don't do any tricks with oil level, nor put oil/lubricant into the cylinder. I don't know anybody around here who would play with the oil level for 6 months, but I do know some who put a drop of motor oil to the cylinder. I do change the oil once in a year. So 6 months goes without any hassle, except the battery tender & gasoline going bad.

Oh, it would be very hard. I never thouht that unemployment would be a problem in the US too. Because I am far away, and US here in Eastern-Europe always was an idealistic place. We saw it only movies...
I wish you'll find a job soon. Can I ask what is your job?
