Hi all,

I have a 2016 Vespa Primavera. Stupidly enough I lost my blue keys and tried to start the scooter with the brown key that came with it. I managed to unlock the scooter itself (from the wheel lock position) and open the glove compartment. But the scooter itself won't come to life - electronics won't start. Is there a trick with this key other than just starting the scooter normally?

Does the starter motor engage? Are you holding a brake lever while pressing the start button?

The motor does not engage at all.
I did not try to hold the brake lever - I never have to when i start normally but am going to check when I get back to the scooter.

If you are saying no lights are coming on, check your battery is step 1.

Thank you. I will check it - however the battery was fine - never had an issue with it. So I am assuming that by some reason it won't suddenly die coincidentally on the same day that I lost my keys.

In a word, no. And the brown key is the holy grail of keys for your scooter. I'm not aware of any way to mess with the chip to affect things either.

As far as I know, all modern Vespas require you to hold a brake lever when starting in order to complete the starting circuit.

From this, and the original comment "unlocked from the steering lock and opened the glove box...", could it be that the brown key is not turning all the way to the Run (ignition on) position?

Try jiggling the brown key a little more.

I did that, the key does go into "ON" position. But even then, the panel won't light up. Must be an issue with the chip...

Try pulling in the rear (left) brake lever when you attempt to start (if you haven't already). Also, does your scoot have a side stand with a kill switch feature? If so, make sure it's up.

These are obvious, I know, but just making sure. Good luck!

Apparently the battery died. I have no idea how this coincidentally happened on the same night when i lost my keys... it could be that i left the keys inside the battery drained and then someone just saw the keys and took them.... cant think of anything else.
