I've created a new section called Technical Library. My goal is to have a wide-ranging selection of reference-type information on various topics that's easy to peruse.

The library is read-only, but that's primarily because I don't want to fracture general discussion. If you have something that seems like it would make a good technical library article, write it up here in General Discussion and PM me to nominate it as a technical article. We can let the rest of the forum discuss it here, and then I'll move it over and make it a permanent part of the library.

Examples of things I'd like to go in the Technical Library section would be bulb types for various models, wiring color charts, engine specifications, measurements, or even step-by-step repair and maintenance procedures. If it's information you have to search around to discover, consider writing it up so someone else doesn't have to work as hard next time. That'll leave us all more time for riding.

To start things off, I've moved the Speedo vs. GPS chart contributed by Smorris into the technical library. That's a perfect topic for the library.

Now if I could get around to doing the same for my GT200...

I'd like to hold off on that for now, though, as there's probably a good deal of information that applies to several or all models. Right now, we've got exactly two articles up.

Also, one of my goals for this forum was to avoid fragmenting into too many sub-forums, which I think other forums (on many other topics) often fall prey to. This has the effect of segregating the users, which never really does anyone any good. I'd rather have extra material to wade through than to miss something because it was in one sub-forum and not the other (i.e. GT vs. GTS).

If we get a large amount of material in the technical library and it becomes difficult to wade through to find the information you want, then I'll reconsider. But thanks for suggesting it all the same.

What I wanted to ask was how GPS compared to an average family car speedo.

My GT sits happily with the "average car " on the motorway which makes me think my speedo is probably in line with average. What do you think?

Yah, I've made the technical library read-only, primarily to keep things brief and tidy and to focus the conversation here in the general discussion area.

As it happens, there is a discussion on this subject here that you might want to add your comments to. As information solidifies, I'll update the relevant technical library article.

If you want to add a new article to the technical library, write it up as a new topic here in general discussion and we'll all talk about it. Once it's solid, I'll move it over.

I did the GPS comparison for the tech forum (and also the public discussion version for topics like this one.) I've used the GPS in various automobiles and vans, and find that it varies a bit. In out Audi, the speedo reads about 2 MPH high across the entire range. In my old mechanically driven MG, the speedo reads about 5 MPH high +/- about 10 MPH when the speedo starts jumping. On the WRX, it is dead on at all speeds. In out company van it is within about 2 MPG at highways speeds and right on in town.

I think it just depends on how much the manufacturer tries to combine tires, speedo gearing, and pressure to get a real reading.
