Hello ,
I just purchased a silver GTS250ie and am thrilled. Two questions, what is the warranty, bike sold new June 2006 now has 3000 miles. Gas gauge flashes but does not show capacity?

Thanks

Welcome to MV! Lots of good information here. Are you the original owner or did you buy this used? Standard warranty is 12 months, unless an extended warranty was purchased. Not sure if that was/is transferable.

Not sure about the gas gauge. Might try disconnecting the battery for 30 min or so. If I understand correctly, that re-sets the CDI unit, and that might clear up for dodgy gauge.

An oh, I nearly forgot, you must post pix!

Thanks for the tip. I am not the original owner so I assume warranty is past. I will disconnect battery and hope.

Pictures later.

Is your petrol gauge flashing with a solid 'box' at one end and an 'empty box at the other? If it is, it means your fuel level sender is diconnected.

Thanks for the info. I disconnected the battery as suggested waited ten minutes and my problem was solved.

Riding today though, my spark plug lead disconnected from the plastic plug snap which goes over the spark plug. With a hot engine, very short lead, it was a pain to reconnect!

Are their other issues I should be aware of??

Thanks!!

When you get a chance, and the engine is cool, pull off the spark plug cap and actually screw the wire back into the cap (or turn the cap around to screw it into the end of the wire). There's threads inside that cap that attach it to the cable. Merely pushing it up into the cap will likely result in the wire falling out again.

The exhaust gasket is prone to failure. There's a recall going on right now, because when the exhaust gasket fails, it blows hot exhaust gases on the rear brake, causing it to melt. You'll know right away if it happens, though -- your exhaust will get noticeably louder. You can either wait or ask your local dealer if your VIN falls within the affected range (which is likely).

Thanks,
I did screw the wire back into the cap. The tool kit included with the scooter was very helpful. I have received the recall notice and will handle this week.

Good luck with the GTS! I love mine! Checked the mileage yesterday. 80 mpg with moderate traffic.

Disconnected or shorted.
I assume the same holds true for the temp gauge - flashing with a solid box at one end and an empty box at the other means a bad temp sensor?
