You're already thinking about modding a bike you haven't even taken delivery of.

Modding for more power almost always comes at the cost of reliability and durability.

If you already know you want more power, then you should get a bike that has sufficient power right out of the box.

Getting 750 in a few weeks, let's see how it does. Think I can get it remapped for a whole 6hp more and slightly higher rev limit.
In the circumstances you describe, a quick flick of the wrist will accelerate you to the point of speed you said you don't like ...

That said, the 750 is in a very different category when it comes to responsiveness. I adore my MP3 500 as a super practical and fun urban vehicle. But she's a heavy gal and not very responsive. The 750 is no 150hp sports bike, but it is totally capable of out-accelerating most cars, even at elevated highway speeds.

I used to have a KTM Duke 1290 (180hp) and don't miss it at all. It's complete horsepower overkill these days, there are preciously few riders around that could control all those if the bikes weren't loaded with electronics to prevent you from braining yourself. Once, in the rain, the electronics on the Duke had a hickup when I was taking a left turn after the light went green. The bike nearly highsided me into geostationary orbit... I was lucky to land on the tank on my b*lls and limp home... I much prefer the 98hp of my BMW R1100S with nice, gentle torque - no need for electronics other than ABS if you know what you do.

In a nutshell, the NC750X is plenty fast enough, imo, and I like speed.

That's what I'm hoping.
Pick it up in a week or so.
I just know from experience when I talk myself into something a bit more sensible the boyish urge to go a bit faster nags away.
I once bought an old Mercedes E320 estate/wagon as perfectly adequate to take family around, then a little while later swapped it for an E55AMG which made me smile more.
Have an old Merc GL420CDI I chipped to produce so much torque it snapped a rear half shaft when I accelerated hard but still wonder if a G63 might be better (sensible side won there as it has the off road package can't get on the 63).
I fear the NC750X might make me want more (and there are some negative reviewers out there feeding this) but sounds like I'll enjoy it nonetheless meanwhile.
Having said that, got a Tesla model 3 and -so far- have resisted clicking on the app to pay £1500 for the performance boost to take 0-60 from 4.2 to 3.8 seconds, so I am learning to live with adequate fun rather than exciting.
The other question is should I keep the MP3 or sell it to appease the wife, am hoping it will make the MP3 redundant but I am quite fond of the MP3.

What you say sounds sensible but I have chipped a lot of cars generally with no ill effect (snapped half shaft being exception) and sometimes nominal improvements make a disproportionate difference to fun. Honda modified the 2021 version to have higher redline and more power and not sure if they changed much hardware, 60hp out of a 750cc shouldn't be pushing it. I'm thinking the change (+2NM most of the range so 3% and an extra 5 or 6hp or 10% from having slightly higher redline) may make it a bit more fun on the (occasional) occasions when I make use of it but shouldn't harm it otherwise.

But agree I should spend a while riding it to see if it needs it before I tinker.

Changing variator weights, washer and airbox restriction on MP3 made it totally different bike.

Aologies Maksor but I kinda accidentally hijacked your thread discussing making a 1000cc MP3 from a gp800 mated with an mp3, but at least I don't feel too guilty suggesting modifying something to get what I want cos I can't just buy it 😉

Cars and bikes are 2 completely different animals. Cars have a better/larger tolerance, while bikes are already stressed out of the box and the engine works harder/revs higher.

The 2021 changes also include include revised gearing on the first 3 gears of the DCT, including revised management software. The 2021 and newer have much better/faster and smoother pickup

Bottom line is this. How much do you value your license? Are you really that much in a hurry to lose it or risk your life or the life of others?

Something else to consider. If you're gonna tune, do it after any warranties are gone. Almost all used vehicles if bought from a licensed dealer/trader come with a minimum 1 year warranty as required by law. Tuning while the vehicle is in warranty pretty much instantly renders your warranty null and void. Ditto on vehicle insurance, should you have an accident and you are found to be at fault the insurance will almost always leave you holding the bag if it is discovered that the vehicle has been modded without their knowledge and consent. Just sayin'

Same goes for using hi-po (racing) parts that do not have CE or TUV certification. Cops are really starting to crack on loud pipes (cars and bikes) and parts that are not compliant for street use.

That is a lot of risk to take for the very little gain to be had.

Very sound opinion indeed. Any tuning gains these days are really marginal unless you turn stuff into a track-only machine. Even a high quality (and TUV-approved) aftermarket exhaust like the Akra will only give you a better sound, not really better performance.

I am indeed deferring to your wisdom. I was just riding back around M25 as it was getting dark on MP3 and thinking 130kmh or 80mph is fast enough really. Take a little longer and enjoy the ride.

That's it. There's so many other thing's that need our attention. When I started, I was able-bodied and could move around. Now, I am in a wheelchair, full of different challenges yet, I still work on my engines and ride.
I don't go to any events, shows or café gatherings because my wheelchair won't go through the doorways or there are too many obstacles in the way.
I get out when everyone else is tucked up in bed. I don't need the unwanted attention of telling me I shouldn't be riding a ptw or asking how my shit works.
I still do what I do because I love it.
Good to hear from you.

Mine's an Argon 2 I built myself with a few modifications. I am an Aspie too so, it'll explain my long-winded postings. I feel we are being fobbed off with inferior products. They'd be more at home in a Dominatrix's Dungeon than a mobility shop. I have always made my own tools by hand. I am highly-skilled with many solutions for problems but am yet to find a like-minded person to share with. Their imagination is the limit!
