This may be a flawed analogy but somehow it reminds me of the rise and fall of rollerblading - everybody jumped into the fad, crashed and busted themselves up, and quit. For a while you couldn't ride your bicycle in Central Park, there were so many of them skating four- or six-abreast, or with their dogs on extension leashes, or swerving out of control and wiping out innocent bystanders (or joggers, or cyclists). Now they're all gone, only the speedskaters remain.
And me. The price of admission for scootering is quite a bit higher but I bet it eventually peaks and dies out - the committed, the hard core, the smart riders, the commuters will remain; the foolish will blog about their stitches and broken arms and move on to something else. |

sheesh... every expensive part is damaged... although, if i had the coin i'd totally buy it, pound out the dents, fog it with some bbq paint and then rock it all rough and tumble... no glovebox, no front fender, etx... best, -greasy |

Ouch. That hurts my heart. Though oddly enough the seat still looks to be in mint condition...it looks to be in better condition than my own!

My dad is in the collision business and has a dealer license to buy salvages. Do you think in MI we ever get any scooters on the auction block? NEVER. And there is two on that page. That is just not fair.

I do think people buy on a whim and then figure out it's harder and more dangerous than they thought. At least here in hawaii. Especially the people with lots of cash. While they are few and far between i've seen a couple of LX50's and a pair of twin LT150's on craigslist in the past year. All in mint condition with less than 700 miles. I'm sure there are more out there and some i've missed
