Modern Vespa

Finally made it to the Milk District to snap another wing picture. Central Florida has amazing wall/street art and my Vespa is the best way to slow down and enjoy locating the interesting exhibits.

Raleigh, NC has a great on-going mural project. Here's one of the earliest examples in town; around the corner from Poole's Diner.

Are they still doing any bear dances around there, or is this mural all that's left?

Since there aren't any brown bears to be seen up there that we know of.

Yes, there's a bear dance every year out in Indian Valley, on the back road between Greenville and Taylorsville. Humans hunted and killed most all grizzlies by the early 1920s, although there have been the rare reported sightings. No one has gotten a photo of one. I think there's one at the zoo in San Francisco. Other than that, our only Grizzlies are on the flag and the state seal.

By the way, Grizzly Bears are in the brown bear family, but not every Brown Bear is a grizzly. Our bear population is the Black Bear (they aren't usually black though). Some "official sources" say they are hard to find, but I see one or two every year, sometimes more. In my former home, just a few blocks from where I live now, there was a black bear family on the hill near my back yard. Had to scare one away from my trash barrel once.

Quite a few of these would be great as enlarged prints on canvas so they could be displayed! wow. I could see them in garages, living rooms, etc! And very affordable. Nice.

There is a town an hour north of me (Chillicothe MO) that has at least a dozen very large murals. Many of them are very impressive. It would be a good Sunday trip with less traffic and I can act like a tourist and take pics.

Stopped By Jessie's old place

Two photos from my adopted home-town of Talent, Oregon - just north of Ashland - which in turn is only a half hour north of the California/Oregon border.

The first is a mural celebrating...the town itself, 'Talent'! It's right on the back of a building downtown which houses, among other things, a doctor's office and a great local pizzeria.

The second sits on the corner of two main streets in the small downtown area. Some months ago, near the beginning of September, nearly 20 % or more of the town was destroyed in a freak apocalyptic wildfire which burned both houses and businesses indiscriminately. Nearby, one side of a main street was burned to ashes - while the other side, providentially, escaped intact. Local citizens and neighbors have come together in the intervening weeks and months to help one another. The second mural - of a Phoenix, rising from the ashes to begin a new life, was done by a local artist and sits right on a downtown corner where the rebuilding process is in full swing.
