Yes, yawn.

I'm about to replace my rear tyre out of necessity and my front tyre just because I like things that match.

My glorious dealer was most helpful on the phone this arvo. When I asked what sort of tyres they have, the response was one step above, "black and made of rubber."

Anyways, they have got Michelin Pilot Power and they can get me Conti Twists.

Hmmm.

My choice would have been Continental Zippy. But apparently not.

Anyone have anything useful to say about what is available to me?
(ie not that they are black and made of rubber).

Thanking you in anticipation.

I'm not yawning. Make my day by also asking about exhausts / frame locks / black being the fastest.........

I too like matching pairs and changed to Michelin Pilot sports a while back and have really enjoyed the extra feeling of confidence and grip.

I've read the Zippys are great. Have you thought about buying tyres online and just getting the fitting done at your dealer?

They won't fit parts not purchased there.

I was trying to take advantage of a service already booked in.

It's a bit of a bugger.

without reading any reviews and without any first hand knowledge of either i will offer my advice based solely on visual inspection.

to me, the pilot powers look like a full tilt race tire. my guess is that the tread depth is very shallow and the compound is very soft. minimal mileage, maximum grip. also due to the tread pattern i'd say it's more of a fairweather tire...

the conti twist looks like a better option. i know that some of the twist series tires feature the same compound as the zippy1, but with a different tread pattern and allow for optimal dry and wet handling. so they should last pretty well, too.

however, be sure that you're getting the standard twist, and not the "twist sport". them bad boys are pure track, imo... and will wear out if you look at them sideways...

that being said, if your dealer can get the twist why can they not supply you with the zippy1? if they're a conti dealer they shouldn't have a problem....

best,
-greasy

Thanks Greasy. I was hoping you might be around.

They are sourcing them from an importer interstate who has said that's all they've got in the country at the moment.

The tyranny of distance and all that.

I might put a call into someone else and see if they have what I want on hand. I guess I'm paying for someone's time and if I split it between two establishments, so be it.

Thanks for your help with this.

I have Michelin Pilot SPORTs fitted and they seem to perform well, You can get Pilot Sport City's if you want more tyre life. Not sure about Pilot power, are they new on the market?

Loads of people on here seem to rate Zippy's very highly, but I don't like the idea of fitting a tyre with a lower speed rating than the top speed of your scoot!

i was on the a19 flyover doing around 70, in the dry, not much wind, round a mellow bend, and the front decided to step out to the right about 6 inches then suddenly grip again and there was no oil on the road or anything.

i wasnt that bothered apart from the fact that i had just overtaken a juggernaught, it was right behind me, and it aint gonna stop if i come off infront of it

if idd have lost it, idd be dead.

New tyres fitted today.

Had to ride home in the wet, which is not a nice thing to contemplate on new tyres. But the Contis handled the wet much better than the icky Savas.

I think I am in love. (And for some reason I don't feel sad saying that)
