OK, I think I've skimmed over the darn thing over at least a half dozen times, and I can't seem to find the instructions on locating/removing/installing the CDI in an ET4. I think the blurry type is messing with my eyes. Can someone help me find the page(s) where this is located in the workshop manual posted here on MV (https://modernvespa.com/files/workshop/ET4Workshop.pdf), or in another document or web site?

thank you!

Typically if a CDI is 1-piece ( meaning the HT coil is integral ) like the Ducati-style, it's the box that has 3-4 wire leads running into it and the spark plug wire coming out of it.

If you have a 2-piece CDI ( meaning the HT coil is a seperate unit ) then the spark plug wire will attach to a small cylindrical item, with 1 wire running to it. The wire running to it will attach to another box with 3-4 wires running in / out of it.

THAT'S the CDI. Typically they are easy to remove / replace.

Sorry that i can't help more, as i've literally NEVER cracked into a modern vespa before.

Hi Eric - thanks for your super fast answer!

I know what it looks like since I have one sitting here in front of me, I just want to know how to properly access/remove the old one and install the new one.

I found the 'how to program keys' section in the technical manual, but no info on CDI installation, etc.

BTW, anyone used that info to re-program their keys? this was the part I was warned about - that if I messed this up, I'm pretty much screwed. The instructions (page 20-21 in the tech manual) are very clear with photos included.

OH, I found my own answer - the CDI is listed under "bodywork."

See page 247 (page 8-7) - it's tucked behind the horn cover, which is what Wellesley at Vespa Washington told me and I promptly forgot until I found this.

(I would include a pic but when I try to upload it I get the error "Sorry, you have reached your maximum Upload Quota Limit of 1 MB")
