Hey everyone. Hope this is acceptable to post here. Aside from my wife and I's scooters, I have a tuktuk, it is a Bajaj Autorickshaw, basically a Ape that wandered east.

Well a group of us here in Dallas started the Texas Tuktuks and had our first meet up ride this weekend. Only 3 tuks now, but more are being worked on that we are helping with. But 3 is 3 times the number most people have seen and they caused quite a stir downtown. I video'd the event and was gonna share it here with you guys.

Too cool!
That's just wonderful that you all have restored and got those machines on the road! That's got to be about the only thing neater than a scooter group ride. Looks like you had a lot of fun.

Great video okc! Thanks for posting, those tuktuks are head turners. Got to meet Daniel and his wife at a rally in New Braunfels.

They really are an absolute hoot, who would think something would be so much fun at 29 mph lol. We've talked about trying to get a tuktuk meet-up next year maybe. Could be a lot of fun to fart around in the little things as a big group.

Watching Apes on the autostrada in Italy was interesting. Apparently in Italy you can get them with a 435cc diesel engine. Though it is the 197 cc Ape Calessino http://piaggiocommercialuk.com/range/piaggio-ape-range/ape-calessino/ I'd want. I think it would be really cool to have up here in Breckenridge as a summer car.

On a flat road mine will do 35 to 40
It has a 150 cc 2 stroke engine that is original to the vehicle

Yeah, that's funny, the pick ups do 35-40, and the passenger do 29-32. And it seems like its across all years.

Mine is the blue 1981 passenger, same exact rear engine as yours. The red passenger model is a 2004 175cc 4 stroke, his goes a "hair" faster. He also owns one of the 90's era front engine Bajaj trucks that came out of Mesico, and it goes close to 40.

I know a few guys have kitted the 1980's models and added pipes, but I don't know how much it helps. I feel like it is a gearing issue. I shift into 4th gear at 15 and at 31 it is screaming wide open high RPM.

Makes me wonder if the passenger models were geared lower than the trucks.

Paid to ride in tuktuks often in Bangkok. I had a really hard time whenever I was with someone else-at 6'7" they just don't make those things for me. But-man are they cool. I wonder what the licensing and insurance rates are for those? Bet they ain't seen nothing like those in Dallas! You guys should lead America's Team onto the field at that new fancy-dancy stadium Mr. Jones built!

Don't you know it! I rode in several in India. OTOH, considering all of the other disorientations and hassles, it was just part of the show. One of the more memorable rides was in Delhi with a friend's wife and son (he was off doing science for a couple of days). Taxi wanted exorbitant $$ and some other BS, IIRC. We walked and flagged down an "autorickshaw." Three of us, with bags. Driver treated us like honored guests and charged us like 20 rupees to go halfway across the city. Wha? emoticon

Licensing is as a motorcycle, we all have MC plates on ours, and insurance is about the same as I pay for my wifes 50cc for liability. With a top speed of 30, there isn't much damage we can do with these.

We would love to figure out insurance for bringing paid passengers, ass we can find there is over 1k a month, otherwise we would be doing weddings and other fun things with them.
