So I'm trying to see if my GTV falls within the dreaded recall lineup. I suppose I could wait for a recall letter from Vespa, but considering that I've never received a piece of mail from them...ever...after owning 2 new scoots, well, I'm not holding my breath.

The affected VIN numbers:
ZAPM450000006276 --> ZAPM459LX75004164

Here's my question (and please be gentle, I already feel like a complete idiot for asking it)...

Does my ZAPM459L275500.... come before or after the last VIN mentioned above, ZAPM459LX7500...

Is my "L2" a higher or lower VIN than "LX"?

Again, be gentle.

Edit: or should I simply ignore both the "L2" and "LX" altogether and focus on the last five numbers? (If that's the case, my scoot must have the redesigned pieces.)

Apparently I'm not the only one who doesn't know.
Anyone? Anyone?

Bump.

I believe that the recall only affects the GTS models and not the GTV. Then again, they share much of the same basic components. I would say call your dealer to see if your model is affected, but I'm guessing that it isn't.

Just called Piaggio USA Technical Services at (949) 645-0030 and they said my GTS was looking good.

At the time I bought it in April, I want to think that Floyd (my dealer) said the GTV shouldn't be affected. Considering that my scoot was built in February '07, one would assume it has the updated components. However, I recall someone on here saying that not all GTVs were exempt. (As you mentioned, the GTV is basically a GTS with a different headlamp and seat, and so very well might be prone.) Just to be on the safe side...and for a little peace of mind...I checked the numbers and ran across the "LX" / "L2" conundrum mentioned above. It's a bit difficult to tell what the numerical order is supposed to be with random letters thrown into the mix.

I guess I should just get off my lazy ass and call the number mywasp just provided.

(Thanks, mywasp!)

Somebody reported here not too long ago that the 'x' was actually a wild card.

As I read it your last four digits 5500 comes after 4164 so you should be in good shape.

That's what I was thinking, too. Thanks for the affirmation, though!

Bret ... you should be able to tell from just getting under the scoot and looking. If it has the redesigned header pipe, it has a flange on it that comes out flat.

Look at the pictures in the recall info thread to see the difference between the old and new.
