A few weeks back we had a TON of rain....well, more in the ballpark of a dozen or more inches. Nature being what it is, we're now blessed with more mosquitos than I've seen in my entire life...which includes June canoeing in Boundary Waters/Quetico.
Normally wind and sun are pretty protective from attacks....a week or so ago I was in my mom's garden, and it was actually sunny and windy, and I was still being bitten. My garden is more protected, and whenever I venture out there you can see a cloud of them rise up. Just picking some basil at the edge of the garden gave me a couple dozen new friends.
Worst, the other night I opened the patio door off of our bedroom for air. The screen had been open, so I snapped it shut. Some minutes later I looked at the ceiling above the fan and it was dotted with a couple dozen of them. I started taking them out, one by one, until my wife showed up, and instead of going to bed, spent the next 20 minutes doing search and destroy.
We apparently did finish them off, but I swear there were a hundred. Since then, I've noticed that a foray into the back yard might bring in a dozen hitchhikers.
I've been looking forward to Fall, but I'm ready for frost any day now. Not much use for the outdoors (other than riding) anyway....
