From last week (I was on Spring Break from work, and I only access MV at work):

Was awakened Wednesday morning at 4am by a loud bang. Power was out, so I assumed that the transformer blew. I reported the outage using Oncor's app, and went back to sleep.

Woke up at 9am to the sounds of a repair crew outside. When I looked out the front window, I saw a cop blocking the street in front of my house. Looking down the road, I saw a fire truck at the other end of the block, and a crew of linemen working on the downed line caused by the neighbor's Live Oak splitting and taking out ALL of the lines between the poles.

Power was restored at 1:30pm. No big deal, storms & tree damage happen.

Spectrum then came out to redo their lines, and restore cable/internet service.

They were still working on it (and blocking my driveway) when I went out to pick up dinner at 6:45. Because of the driveway blockage, I took the BV. When I returned, two of the three trucks were gone, and the third was still blocking my driveway. I was able to get into my driveway using my neighbor's. Before I could even finish parking the scooter, the Spectrum guy left. When I went inside, the modem still showed no connection, so I rebooted it, figuring it just needed a reset. When it came back up, it still wouldn't connect. I figured they left because it was getting dark, or they needed a part, and that they'd be back out first thing in the morning.

Next day I got up at 9am, there still wasn't any service, and no crew working on it. I went out to look at the line, and saw that they'd done everything EXCEPT connecting the line to my house. They reconnected my neighbor, but not me. So I called service and told them what was up. "We can have a technician out there today between 2 & 4pm."

Oh, HELL, no.

I told him that they need to get a tech out as soon as possible, because they didn't finish the job from yesterday, that this is not a new problem, it's an unresolved problem from an outage. Yeah, that didn't matter to them, the tech showed up at 2:15.

On the bright side, he ran a new drop for us (that didn't go through the rain gutter like the previous drop), and installed all new connectors inside & out.

My bank saw fraudulent activity on my card, so they called me, verified that it was fraudulent, cancelled the card & sent me a new one. During that time, my webhost tried to renew my URL, and the card didn't go through because it was cancelled.

So I go to their website and try to login. Except I forgot my password. No problem, I'll click the Forgot Password link. It says it will generate an email with a link to reset it. So I wait. And I wait. And I wait. No email. Finally I get on a live chat with them.

I explain the problem (cancelled card, can't login due to forgotten password), they then send me a link to the login page and ask for a help code from the Service Options menu. Except I have to be logged in to see that menu, and I can't login.

I explain to them (again) that I can't login, because I can't reset my password.

So they ask for my URL, email, username, and the last four digits of the card on file. I explain that the card has been destroyed per the bank due to fraudulent activity. I finally go to my bank's app and find a transaction that lists the last 4, and they reset my password.

But WTF??
Me: "Hi, I need help logging in."
Tech: "Ok, login and tell us this code, and we'll help you."
Me: "But I can't login, that's why we're talking."
Tech: "Oh."

I have all of those critters too. Trapped 4 skunks last year and working on Stinky 5 now. The wild animals don’t bother me as much as the Free Range cats that belong to someone. If I knew where the cats lived I’d take my 115 pound Bernese Mountain Dog to their yard and coax him into dropping a deuce in their yard.

Batteries!
About a week back seeing how warm weather was coming to Central NY I decided to put wife's GTV on the trickle charger "just to be safe". To be honest don't think we ever did that from the time it was new. After setting over night and having been on the "float" side of the charger I hit the starter and the GTV fired up like it had been just run the day before in the summer.

Well as we had had a couple days since then with moderate amount of rain and today it was nudging the 70ºF mark on the thermometers we decided a short ride with a stop at a local ice cream shop to pick up some vanilla ice cream to go with the apple crisp I had made yesterday.

Checked and topped off tires on her GTV and my sidecar outfit got our gear on and helmets. I hit the starter on the sidecar outfit and while putting on my gloves notice wife looking at the GTV then removing her helmet. I shut off the sidecar to be able to hear what she was saying. She said it's not doing any thing! To be honest I thought she had just forgot she had to hold one of the brakes to get starter to work, I do it often.

Nope the engine would barely try to turn over. Got out the volt meter and after removing cover over the battery check volts right at the battery and with no load it was just a tenth or two above 11 volts!

Then to add to the insult first battery shop that I had been dealing with at my job as a heavy equipment mechanic for at least three decades turns out to have closed a few months back and the second auto shop did not have the right size battery, but the third on did have one on the shelf.

Problem is by then we had lost the ambition to go for a ride. I know it's 99% my fault for not trying to start before putting it on the charger a week ago not to mention assuming that the OEM battery in a 2013 was still good!

Umm, yeah, that looks like a pretty tragic flan, IMO.

Hope it tastes better than it looks.

I am kinda cheesed off that I cannot seem to fill up my LX50 without ending in a fountain of gas erupting from the tank. Then I need a rag to wipe it up, then the rag, soaked in gas, makes the pet carrier even more dangerous for fluffy!

For the love of God, how do I not do this?

hold it just inside tank and slowly fill it up.. just squeeze for a few seconds and let go. keep doing it until its full. Then tilt the nozzle upwards as you take it out so any gas inside the pump won't come spilling out, cause gravity has it going back into the pump. We are only talking about 2 gal of gas at most.. no reason to just squeeze the pump and fill it up full speed. Takes like 30 seconds to a minute to do it even a little at a time.

I can't see a possible solution to this problem as the tank inlet is the same size as the nozzle, so other than going painfully slow and put in one litre per minute. I have also adopted Robot suggestion to use the fuel lid to keep the pet carrier up so when normally the fuel start to come out just goes down inside the frame and not everywhere else.. Who knows, one day maybe with a hot engine a bit of fuel it may auto ignite and.... boommm...

Riding weather is here, I still have 3 scoots needing attention, some old house electrical work to do but I am actually working once again. Oh, and I have a screw loose...
About that screw, my scooter rally in late September down in St. Louis got me an interesting adventure early on the first ride... but the little scooter that I was riding only got a few scratches. Over pressured front tire, road I didn’t know, or that the scoot tire was over pressure cuz it wasn’t mine and neither me or the owner thought about weights... so, badly splintered right fibula and knee damage, interesting external hardware to get me home without further damage, more surgery to add a bit more metal to that leg... and remove external, 4+ months off work... NO I am Not selling any of my rides, Yes I will be riding, no, not really anyone at fault, ok. So 2 of us didn’t think about somethings in advance that would have prevented the accident. And Yes, my love of ‘wear the gear, all the gear’ really pays off.. oh, and it was an easy slide across the rural road, my new helmet never got a scratch..none of my clothing ripped... twisting that right leg...well, ya, photos included, but not the really gross 1.

Greetings:

Well not today but yesterday, my Projet du jour was to install one of the $17 pair of LED bulbs into ISO's headlamp. Fussed with the windshield mounts - as usual - but eventually got it and the mirrors off and the nacelle unscrewed. Disconnected the parking bulb (clue...) connector and the 3 wires to the main lamp. The bulb fit perfectly and reassembled the white plastic retainer. Reconnected and lit up nicely.

So far I had consumed about 10 minutes, thinking "This is going well!" Reassembled and was about to tighten up the mirror retainers when... Uhh, did I reconnect the parking bulb?! Nope. Grrr.

So I got to start over, minus the windshield. This time I dropped the front nacelle screw and spent at least 10 minutes searching for it, without success. I found one close enough from my Junk Stash.

By the way, the bulb on Low Beam doesn't appear to be much brighter than the incandescent bulb it replaced, and the light pattern is irregular and unfocused. On High Beam, it is incredibly bright, but doesn't seem to change the direction, probably because the bulb just gets brighter without shifting its focal point. 2 bulbs for $17 sounds like a bargain, but don't bother with
these. Grrr again...

I had a similar mischance recently. I replaced my turn signal lights with LEDs that were an exact replacement for the incandescent bulbs. What I didn't get was that "exact replacement" meant just that - they were no brighter than the originals. Though they did fit perfectly.

The problem was that, on the MP3, the little pods that hold the lights have very limited space and most LEDs are just a bit too large. After some research, careful measuring, and assuring myself that they can be returned if necessary, I purchased another set of much brighter LEDs. They barely fit, but that's good enough.

light shade of grey print on websites
Grey may be 'in' but I really, really hate light grey shades of type on any website pages. I have a very hard time reading light grey print on a white background! There is no contrast. I won't even waste my time on those sites! Why do they do that??

We owe $1000 on taxes this year because the state didn't take enough out my unemployment insurance last year. Was going to use that money towards a new paint job.

Oh yeah, and trying to find a painter that will return my call for above said job.

Got annoyed today after finding out I’m not eligible for Veteran’s Administration (VA) healthcare benefits...including a Covid-19 vaccination. I only served 10 years active duty and 5 in the reserves. Evidently veterans whose household income is above $64,900 aren’t eligible for benefits. Really? I’m happy to wait my turn for the vaccine but NO medical benefits? Thanks Uncle Sam!

Fedex are pissing me off.

I had a parcel coming from China by sea, which was handed over to Fedex in February. According to the tracking info (only just received) it came withing two miles of my home, then disappeared. $460-worth of LiFePO4 batteries gone AWOL. I've now started the tortuous process of getting the Chinese supplier to get Fedex to reimburse me.

Need to get back to getting my continuing education hours (during COVID they suspended the requirement, but now instead of 40 hours every two years, I'll need 80 by the end of next year...only have 30 so far...).

Anyway, our state association puts on a Spring convention nearby (Elkhart Lake, for you locals/expats). I thought it started today...and freaked out yesterday as I couldn't find my course schedule and was having trouble with the association's website. Got my information, got there 5 minutes early, resort desk clerk sent me down the hallway, but all I could find is an unrelated meeting. 10 minutes later I came back to her....turns out she misunderstood me, but did check her records to find out it is NEXT week.

Oh, well, at least I had the day free anyway, got to scope out some nice scooting roads and buy some fresh string cheese at the nearby factory, so it wasn't all wasted.

I hear you! Mrs jimc was jumping with glee to see that there was an open-air Steely Dan concert coming up locally on May 25th - only to realise after she'd notified all her friends that it was for May 25th 2022...

Glad to know it's not just me. Still, need to work on my reading comprehension.

Pet annoyance lately is people of the other gender thinking they know more about what I want or should do with my old house and my $$$. And people of the other gender who decide because I am female wearing a skirt I am Not the customer in electrical parts needing help. People who work for my utilities service who get ticked off because my in progress project and my upcoming project mean he or someone else will be replacing the power line they own to my dwelling as I refuse to live within the power consumption of 1950....yes, I am installing a 36 watt tankless water heater and yes I am having solar panels installed an gee, yes I know they will not produce enough power for my tankless heater, sun shines in the day and I usually shower before or after sun up..
And Yes I am taking that scooter tire Out Of Town for repair/replacement as No 1 in small town does that size tire.... rant, rant! And yes, almost 17 years ago I bought that house, knowing the solar potential was great. Saving $ on utility bills gives me more $ for scooter goodies and riding gear and gas funds.

Reminds me of my first day at college. Right room - wrong building. I was expecting English - got Engineering.

So I excused myself.

I still wonder what would have happened if I had stayed.

To stay on the subject, it pisses me off that the delayed vaccinations in Italy (due to the few doses) prevent my friends Valentina and Sara (that's it, they are two females) from getting married in June as scheduled and every day when I meet them they are sad and give a caress (they too) to their "big bear friend" ... that's what they call me affectionately.

Thank you, Attila.

I have a fantasy of having multiple, parallel, lives in which I have different careers, relationships, locations, etc. I wonder how each would have turned out.

Not as bad as your situ, but: FedEx has overpromised and underdelivered one too many times for me in terms of estimated delivery times. UPS next-to-never does this with me. USPS has done this to me exactly once. (And that in spite of the repeated kneecapping of the latter.) And I think I'll stop my rant right here.

Last year my scoot got blown over and had a bad scrape and dent on it's left side. After 3 months I decided it's time to fix it. Panel-beated it and bogged it. Sanded as smooth as a baby's bum and after a week painted it. Spent 4 hours spray painting it and it looked beautiful. A week later it bubbled.
Thought dang, I'll just cover it with a decal. While trying to gently reposition the decal, the paint peeled off.
Well back to sanding the whole lot and decided to just spray it with a hammered finish paint as I could see some imperfections. Spent 4 hours and it looked beautiful.

Then after 3 days I left my jacket on the scoot. We had a 32degC day and my garage got to 36 degC and you would not believe it, the jacket damaged the paint. This side of the scoot is jinxed

Doing training today at work for a new repair management system. Of course they schedule it during my lunch break, so having to adjust to that makes me cranky.
The upshot is that I live close enough that I can trade the truck for Bernadette on my lunch break. She has some new bling and that is making me happy.

My company's home office security software isn't working at the moment and I must commute to the office, where a bunch of heavily coughing smokers await me.... and all that in a recent wave of the plague in my region.... ((

OK ... Today I'm pissed because there was the second big unexpected atmospheric frost in this month of April (is it April also in the USA?) And the buds of my kiwi plants are burning ...

That's rough. I think people who don't work in agriculture haven't much of an idea as to how worrying those things are.

Kinda sucks to have a kid smarter than yourself.

We were discussing soda this morning after retrieving an outdated Mountain Dew from the basement (we really don't drink the stuff, but, kid birthday parties and all).

Anyway, daughter tells me it was developed for mixing in drinks, and I'm all like "naw, can't be...." So I get to work and pop open Wikipedia, and yup, developed as a mixer because they couldn't get their usual soda....or pop, depending on your region.

Damn.
