Well my fight the last couple days has been with technology. For sometime I have been having problems with this computer with Windows not acting right. Just something as basic as trying to open the Windows 10 built in calculator would cause it to go crazy with things opening up and showing through and the calculator not working at all or very slow.

I did do the update thing and not sure if that was the cause or not. Some one asked how old my hard drive was, well not that old as it just turned 14 years old a few days back! I was told five years and you are walking on thin ice in the summer!

So I decided to go all crazy and install a SSD people said they would make an old computer work like anew one. Well actually after a few problems getting the Windows10 to load on the new drive it seemed to go good. That is till I tried to get my email program to work have tried many things in the last two days and can not get Thunderbird to access my email, keep getting an error message. I can read email with Webmail but it's not as user friendly as Thunderbird I have used for decades. Also Webmail is very slow to load or delete mail.

On the other side of this upgrade from shut down over night to having computer showing my desktop takes maybe 30 seconds. The old hard drive booting up was like watching a three toed sloth run a relay race! One reason I seldom actually turned it off at night!

I noticed last week Thursday that my 4-year old LG refrigerator was no longer making ice. We checked the freezer, and nothing was frozen anymore. I put a thermometer in the fridge compartment, and it reads 67°F (19°C). I ran a self diagnostic, and it says everything is normal. Pulled it out from the wall & removed the panel covering the compressor & coils. No excessive dust build up, and everything appeared fine. I unplugged it and plugged it back in, again, it won't cool.

So I called LG service that night. They were closed. Called them Friday morning from work. The agent refused to help me, because I wasn't in front of the fridge, and they closed before I would be able to get home that night. So I said, "Fine, I'll call back tomorrow from home."

I tried calling all weekend. Every time, I got an automated message saying that, "due to the current health crisis affecting call centers, they are unable to take my call at [that] time, please call back later."

Sunday I went to Home Depot and bought a small, dorm-size refrigerator, so that we can at least keep some things cool. We'll end up using it for fish food and snacks in my wife's home office after we get the main fridge fixed.

This morning I called, and the agent was much more helpful. I explained that I was at work, and the fridge is at home, and listed everything I'd done to fix/diagnose it. He determined that we're still within the warranty period (4 years into a 5-year warranty), and scheduled an appointment for this Wednesday morning.

So I'm pissed at the one specific agent, and at their call center. But I'm happy with the last agent I spoke with.

Wow, deja vu. I have had TWO LG refrigerators die after 4.5 years each. And each time (especially the last time, in the middle of a pandemic) I was put into a crisis position with no support from LG.

I actually liked the LG models, which is why I bought a second one after the first one died. I thought it was a fluke. The second one died almost at the same point in its life cycle.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I'm not going to be buying another LG refrigerator.

We bought ours from the Sears Outlet. It had been dented in transit, so it has some very minor cosmetic dents on it that enabled us to get a great discount. Especially since the first fridge (a Frigidaire, I think) we bought from them broke down twice in the first 3 weeks, and Sears charged us twice for it. We exchanged the first one for the LG, then fought with them for two months to get our money back from the second charge. The LG has worked flawlessly up until last week. Our washer & dryer are also from LG, as are two of our window AC units. I like that the washer & dryer & AC units connect to an app via wifi, so we're able to control them remotely, and get alerts when laundry loads are done.

That reminds me I must fix the ice maker in our Sub-Zero as warmer weather is on the horizon. I *think* the problem is that the water feed tube just behind the ice maker has frozen up.

Sub-Zero!

That is what goes into the houses I design for clients, but they are a bit dear to go into our house.

Good for you, Jim.

Heh. It was $400 on Nextdoor, just needed a new evaporator panel in the fridge. Awesome huge fridge with drawer freezer. This is the one: http://documents.subzero.com/AnswerAdvisor/Quick%20Reference%20650.pdf

Noting that all the rest of our kitchen appliances have been 'free by the side of the road', we considered that $400 well spent. I've just fixed a free-to-us Jura Capresso F7 coffee machine for $15 worth of seals and a bit of glue. Amazing what some people will spend on stuff instead of repairing things themselves, the people who gave us this just spent another $2000+ on another Jura machine.

If I strategically placed an MP3-500 by the side of the road near your house, would you put it in your garage, or just leave it?

Asking for a friend.

I'd snap it up - and ride it for years! But Ivana Tinkle would almost certainly veto the idea - we're downsizing our small fleet as it is.

BVI rum might win her round. However, that seems unobtainium unless you physically visit Tortola. And get a new mortgage...

I'll have a gentle word anyway.

Absolutely no-go. Which neatly brings this diversion back on-topic.

We're trying to get rid of stuff apparently...

In my household, the whole "we're downsizing" thing would go out the window when knitting yarn went on sale...

So last night we were sitting on the couch watching TV, and we heard a loud crashing sound from the kitchen, that sounded like the ice maker had just dumped a load of ice cubes into the bin, only much louder. I got up and checked on it. The lowest glass shelf of the fridge, that covers the crisper bins, had shattered.

On the plus side, the service tech is scheduled to arrive within the next two hours. Here's hoping the shelf is covered under warranty, but if not, we can at least order it through him.

But was there ice?

Hopefully parts are available. I just got off the phone ordering a piece of vinyl upholstery for a repair. Person I spoke to was just a little frustrated getting repair parts. From electronics to the plywood and foam under the upholstery, which, thank goodness I didn't need.

Over the course of about 4 years I've revived -- and kept working -- a Jura ENA Micro that was given to my wife by a client with about $100 in parts. Those things are made like little spacecraft and not very DIY repair-friendly!

Sadly, no ice.

But the glass was covered under warranty. The tech ordered a new one and it should be delivered either this afternoon or tomorrow. And he repaired the fridge, so we can get back to normal.

Planted garlic bulbs in pots a little while ago. Growing nicely, then Raiders of the Lost Garlic fly in and snip most of the green shoots.

My ISP bundles home phone with internet, even tho I don’t use it. I’ve never used it and never given anyone the phone number. I don’t even know the phone number.

So guess what - I’m now being deluged with notifications that my voice mailbox is almost full and requires maintenance. The only possible messages are from my ISP or companies they’ve sold my number too.

So the hell with them. Unfortunately, my only other option is satellite provided, which is still pretty spotty.

I know this is petty, but still. It's also long.

tl;dr: internet a-hole is an a-hole.

I play a couple of mobile games, specifically Pokémon Go (PoGo) and Jurassic World Alive (JWA). PoGo is my primary game, while JWA is secondary. Both are Augmented Reality games.

PoGo allows for in-game friends that the player can give/receive gifts to/from, as well as inviting to "raids" to battle Pokémon. It doesn't matter where on Earth the two friends are. JWA also allows for in-game friends, and cooperative raiding, but also has an Alliance feature, where groups of up to 50 players work towards goals to gain greater rewards.

I joined a new Alliance in JWA about a month ago, and discovered that one of the members also plays PoGo, so we became friends there, too. He's young-ish (mid-20s, I'd guess, based on appearance), and lives in Great Britain. I live in Texas.

My wife and I were playing PoGo one weekend, and found a raid that we needed help with, so I invited him, because I saw he was online. He didn't join the raid in time, and we knew we couldn't defeat it with just the two of us, so we backed out and restarted the raid. I invited him again, and sent him a FB message informing him of the invite, in case he missed it. He still didn't join, but three random players in the area joined, and we battled and won.

As the raid finished, I got a message from him saying, "Dude, need more notice than that."

I apologised and said that it wasn't a big deal, that I saw he was online & sent the invite, and that no one we had invited has shown up, but got it with randos, so all was good.

His response was, "Mate, you have be patient with people.
People can’t just join without notice, just professional advice 😉"

I responded with, "I am. If no one had showed, we’d have exited & tried again."

To which he replied, "That applies to all matters of life, not just games."

I replied, "We got enough to battle, and we’re ok with it. One of the three that showed was a friend that neither had invited.
I saw you were online, sent the invite, then the message, in case you didn’t see it. It wasn’t a big deal on our end."

His response to that was, "Still, take my advice. 😉"

I blew it off and moved on with my life, although it still kind of bugged me that he thought I wasn't being patient. I didn't care if he showed or not. I was able to do the raid w/o him, so it wasn't a big deal. The invite was more of a favor to him than a need on my end.

Fast forward to three weeks later (yesterday), and he's in the group chat for JWA, complaining about another player not sending raid invites or unfriending him or something, all because of a known game glitch that jacks with friend lists. So I copy/pasted the "Mate, you have to be patient with people." and "That applies to all matters of life, not just games." lines in the group chat. I thought it was funny & ironic that he was telling me to be patient (when I was totally chill about the whole thing), yet he was going off on this guy, accusing him of wasting his time, and threatening to report him, etc., etc.

I then received a private message from him. "Uncalled for
Don’t invoke yourself"

I don't quite know what "invoking myself" is, but ok.

I replied, "I was not upset in the slightest when you offered that bit of unsolicited advice.
You’re obviously pissed off at the situation. I found it ironic."

He responded with. "How rude the mouth on you.
If your referring to the issue with delta that’s nothing to do with you.
What’s more, this issue has been ongoing and the following parties are already aware of it."

My response to that was, "Wow."

His final reply was, "Yeah, shocking how ignorant you are.
Don’t contact me again thanks"

So I screen capped the exchange (to protect myself just in case he tries to pull something with the Alliance leaders), and moved on with my life.

What's pissing me off is that he (1) gave unsolicited and unnecessary advice, then (2) displayed the behavior that showed that he doesn't follow his own advice.

So guess what - I’m now being deluged with notifications that my voice mailbox is almost full and requires maintenance. The only possible messages are from my ISP or companies they’ve sold my number too.

So the hell with them. Unfortunately, my only other option is satellite provided, which is still pretty spotty.
Is it much trouble to periodically clear the mailbox?

I've got a similar situation. Internet bundled with home phone. I've had the same home number like forever and I'd like to keep it connected with my land line, though I never use it. I have an answering machine that picks up all calls which I ignore, unless it's a rare call from someone I know, I have to clear messages occasionally.

Soo, it's been a bit rainy, cold, not enough sleep, etc, so no riding yet this week. Today is awesome, so geared up, loaded my stuff into the scooter....backing it out of the garage I'm thinking, "gee, I'm getting weak from age here..." as it just felt heavier and harder to roll.

Get on, ready to start, but something felt off....looked at the rear wheel, flat as a pancake. Get changed out of my gear and drive to work...after refilling the tire.

Think it's not a puncture, as I just topped up air over the weekend, and pressure was only down a couple of pounds after a few weeks of neglect. Hoping the valve stem just jammed or something and I still have air tonight, otherwise have to look for what's leaking.

Such a beautiful day....

As I understand it, he doesn't use the service at all.

I don't see why he should have to maintain something that he doesn't use, and hasn't shared with anyone. If the ISP charges less for a bundled service (internet/phone) than they do for the service alone (internet only), they have to expect that people will sign up for the bundle and not use the service they don't need. I would think there'd be an option to turn off the mailbox feature of the phone service, so that it just rings non-stop, or that the system answers with an outgoing message of "this user has not set up their voicemail."

Well got an all new thing to be Pissed about today.

A couple weeks back I thought I was going to get a cortisone injection in right shoulder to help with pain. I had one last December and it seem to do the trick for about 3 months.

Well a couple weeks back instead of seeing the Doctor had an appointment with his PA. When he checked my range of motion and strength in right arm he said no shot you need an MRI. Well then about a week latter went in for the MRI and they found damage to tendons and rotator cuff said you need surgery.

Got that scheduled for June 1st along with a few other appointments for fitting of sling, and a couple other doctors to sign off that I would not die on the operating table.

Then today wife gets a call from doctors office saying my insurance was disallowing the operation and something about needing more information.

After spending an hour or more on phone with the insurance company who said they knew nothing about the disallowing but would check into it. Another half hour latter the insurance company comes back and say yes the people they contract with to check on need for operation said need more information before they give the go ahead!

No real definite answer as to what they need but might have something to do with range of movement and/or strength measurements. This seems to be right back to what I thought the PA had done to determine I would not get the shot and needed an MRI!

Now they say I need to wait to get the formal letter saying why the operation was disallowed before I can see about getting an appointment to see if I can pass or fail the tests I already thought I had done. Getting an appointment to see anyone at this practice can take two or three weeks which I don't have before the scheduled operation date!

Mangled care at its best.

Agreed, Michael. What a royal PITA. I understand it can be a good idea in many ways to avoid surgery, and wait and see, conservative trials etc can be in the best interest of the patient and cheaper to boot, but the way things wind up being done is sometimes totally illogical, and good, careful clinicians opinions seem to carry no weight, even though they're the ones who should know best.

Well just for fun here is what I was given as the results of the MRI:

MRI Results: Right: shoulder

I reviewed the MRI images (films) taken at and the report of the Radiologist.

1. Full-thickness, near full width 16 mm distal supraspinatus tendon tear with

central tendon retraction and partial thickness tear extension into anterior

distal infraspinatus. Additional 11 mm infraspinatus distal myotendinous

junction interstitial partial thickness tear.

2. Nondisplaced SLAP tear with tiny 3 mm posterior-superior para labral cyst.

3. Moderate glenohumeral joint effusion.

4. Old acromioclavicular joint sprain with 6 mm elevation and overriding of the

distal clavicle. Underlying moderate acromioclavicular osteoarthrosis."

Now I don't understand 90% of those terms but does not sound like somethings that "Take an aspirin and rest for a couple days will take care of it!

Umm, yeah, that sounds pretty messy. There's stuff that used to be considered surgical in the past that isn't necessarily so, but in your case, if you want a useful shoulder again it might be a good idea. They can't make it like new again, but if they can get those tendons back together that would be nice.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes would like to have it "usable" as I heat with wood and running a chain saw with one hand and my secondary one at that would not be too much fun. Plus wife might like it if I could work on her GTV and take some rides with here with one of my other bikes with or without sidecar.

Besides this is the second time I would be having repairs done to this arm for basically the same thing. That repair lasted 10 years so if I could get another 10 I would be happy!

Understood. You've still got life to live. At some point when someone's old and inactive enough, the need to really use the arm is outweighed by the risk of surgery so often better to leave it alone.

Well I guess at 71 I might be considered "OLD" but as to the inactive part the main reason I'm that way is because of this damn arm!

Plus I'm the kind of guy who likes fixing things and that would include my body!

Hope Monday's appointment goes well and I can get on with things.
