Vancouver drivers. 70% don't understand the concept: "when making a turn, enter into the closest lane". Especially combined with not using turn signals at all.

The fact that this in the UK right now is a major victory.

Almost - but not quite - as unpleasant as dealing with insurance companies.

I had a spinal tap when I had meningitis. It was not a fun time. Still have three days I don't remember after the ER visit.

Flat on your back for a few days?

Well lawyers today, sorry if there are some here who take offence!

Wife sold her father's house and property eight years ago after he passed. The property the house was on had been in her family for eighty years at that time. That buyer is now selling the property.

Well today the lawyer representing the person who bought it eight years ago called and was looking for papers that I'm guessing they were not able to find from the sale of eight years back and he expected her to not only find the papers but then get two different affidavits notarized and mailed to him. So after spending half the morning digging through her files and finding information she then had to print out a couple forms from this lawyer and have them notarized and FedExed back to him, at least he provided the mailing label!

I know if she had reason to need something from this lawyer he would probably charge her for a couple hours of "consolation time". And I'm sure he is charging his client for the time he spent getting my wife to do his work!

Showering today, felt, again, lack of sudsing with my shampoo. In a flash of inspiration I read the bottle...conditioner! Same thing the day before but I didn't check. Bottles identical othrr than the print, and I can't read much for than a foot away. Someone , *ahem* must have switched the bottles cleaning the shower. Funny it hadn't happened before.

Why did your wife agree? Couldn't she just say she didn't have the paperwork?

Years ago my grandfather made the same mistake, he saw the big word "shampoo" but did not read "for cars with brightening wax" written in small print.
When he dried his hair it stood straight and he looked like a punk.
He came to me frightened shouting: "Attilio, what happened to my hair ?!"

Meh. From what I hear on the internet showering is overrated anyway. 😏

No, fortunately I was able to get up from the operating table afterwards and walk out on my own two feet. Felt decidedly sore for a few days afterwards, and also a lingering sense of violation.

I've read, and my wife confirmed that her sources agree, that for best results, one should condition hair before shampooing, regardless of what the bottle labels say. Maybe "someone" was trying to get your hair looking/feeling nicer?

At least calling it a spinal tap sounds cooler than "lumbar puncture". Nigel Tufnel would approve.

Hope yours was beneficial. Mine essentially said "you probably won't die today", and then they injected me with morphine which made me sit up and cough. Tasted like pennies. Then it was three days of slipping in and out of consciousness. Most of it felt like a Terry Gilliam film.

But the not dying part was cool.

The goal was to check pressure, which ended up being normal. They ran tests on the samples (since they had them) and I believe the tests were negative for any of the usual problems.

So it was kind of, bit not entirely, pointless.

I used to bank with them, but after several problems including their refusal to discontinue an automatic withdrawal and their inability to produce a title when a loan was paid off - I closed several accounts with them. I now have accounts with a smaller local bank and a local credit union. In both cases, service has been excellent and they recognize me when I come in the door. No more BofA for anything.

We did this years ago and have had no regrets. Credit Unions tend to be more customer oriented and don't have all of the same regulatory requirements banks have.

I should add though we still have a checking account and debit card with them but only use it when we travel abroad. They have agreements with offshore banks that makes getting money at an ATM easy and the exchange is good.

I used to bank with them.

When I cashed out my 401k after leaving a job (pro tip: do NOT do this), and deposited the funds in my account, they assigned a Personal Banker to me. He pretty much bent over backwards to keep me happy.

After I'd burned through the funds (I left that job about 3 weeks before 9/11/2001, and had a hard time finding a job), and my average daily balance was closer to $0, it was like they forgot who I was. I'd been banking with them for close to 10 years at that point, but suddenly it was as if I had never banked with them. So I closed my account, and my then GF/now wife added me to her account with Wells Fargo. When I went in to close the account, I put down "closing account" as the reason for my visit. No one asked why, or asked if there was any way to keep me. The only question they asked was if I wanted the funds in cash or check.

At 03:00 AM last night we had a lightning strike very near to the house.

My wife and I have been with our credit union for almost fifty years. I tried banks (or savings and loans) a couple of times for my business but didn't stick.

I like that the credit union is a non-profit. Everyone gets paid for their work, but no one is making passive income off of my money. Fees are minimal or nonexistent. They do promote services and loans, but no pressure and nothing underhanded (Wells Fargo).

Not so much pissing me off, but frustrating me.

I work for the print shop of a local school district. We are considered an Enterprise department, so we can do outside work, as if we are a stand-alone print shop, like Kinko's or AlphaGraphics, or any other print company. Because we're part of a school district, we get great pricing from vendors, thus our pricing is generally better than other local printing companies. This is great, because I've been able to bring in work from outside, thus improving our bottom line (and making me look good to my bosses).

What's frustrating about it is that we're still held to the same requirements when purchasing supplies from vendors. We can only purchase from approved vendors. We have to get a quote from the vendor first, and then submit it through the procurement system for a purchase order to be generated, then we can place the order. The problem is that in order to become an approved vendor, there's a large quantity of paperwork that must be completed. Quite a few potential vendors have seen the required paperwork, and declined. Other have done it, then learned they have to do it every year, and declined to renew. Even if a new vendor wants to do it, it takes time to process.

I have an order from a client that I had at my last job. I'm trying to get all of their business. Their order is due next week Wednesday. I have everything on hand to produce their order, except for one item. Our cost is $80. I might not get it in time to complete the order.

Essentially, my boss' bosses have told him that they expect him to perform as if we are an external print shop, but we must abide by the rules in place for internal departments. They want us to be competitive, but then they hamstring us with these ordering requirements.

Part of the issue is that everyone here thinks an urgent order is 3-5 weeks. They don't understand that in the "real world," an urgent order is more like 2-3 days.

My accountant.

Well, maybe not her personally, but the company. I had a specific question about my wife's share of the family house in Mexico, so they gave me a person in the agency that specialized in that. Called, weren't available, left a message, no response, tried again, left a message, no response. Called a couple of times over the ensuing weeks, decided NOT to leave a message.....kept putting off calling in between, so weeks went by. in the meanwhile, my wife keeps asking what's going on with the information....

So yesterday, call again, of course she's not available, leave a message, no return call. Call today asking receptionist to hand deliver a written note as it seems the voice mail isn't working. She can't as she's at another location. I'm pretty livid by this time. Anyway, she calls back and suggests a specific time to to consult. Okay, good. Get the time. Meanwhile I'm visiting my mother out of town, race back to be sure I'm home to call at the time. Call, put on hold and for six freaking minutes listen to their stupid ad selling a new accounting service while the person I want to talk with is MIA. Just about when I'm ready to hang up and leave a message to call ME if she has time, she answers. Finally, the 5 minute conversation that's taken a month to get to.

If I didn't have a 35 year relationship with the firm I'd be looking elsewhere.....

I learned a while back that loyalty doesn't mean much, and to do what's best for me.

I was getting my haircuts from the same stylist for years. I first went to her in 1990. When she changed salons (twice), I kept going to her at the new salon(s).

Then I got married in 2002. She also did women's hair, so my wife and I would schedule back-to-back appointments with her. I went first. She cut my hair, then I paid for both haircuts. Then it was my wife's turn. She still wasn't finished with my wife's haircut when her next appointment arrived. Rather than make him wait while she finished the client in the chair, like she'd done to me plenty of times in the 12 years I'd gone to her, she told my wife she had to stop right then and cut his hair, and she (my wife) would have to schedule another time to come back to finish.

Of course, my wife didn't say anything to me about it until we were in the car and on the road. I was pissed. Apparently 12 years of being her client meant nothing. So we started looking for other places to get haircuts. I never contacted her again, and never heard from her again. Let her wonder why she lost me.

Before anyone suggests she was jealous of my wife, she (the stylist) is/was a lesbian in a committed relationship, and was a good 10 years older than me.

When I was still an architect in private practice, I took over my late father's practice.
I often received requests for copies of plans of buildings he had designed. Being before computers, this usually involved searching dusty old store rooms for cardboard tubes enclosing rolled-up drawings. If I could located the roll, I would contact the enquirer and offer the roll as is at a certain price or quote a price to search the archive.

The time wasters usually scared off, and the serious requests would get a service they could be happy to pay for.

My Vespa got smashed badly last night. Somebody tried to steal it under my living room window and because that stealing attempt went wrong the thief flipped the scooter over on its left side.. Of course I have an insurance with full coverage but theres still a lots of unnecessary work for me. Thief should be happy that I did not catch him.

Just one more time I wish there was a way to click on something other than the thumbs up or down buttons.

Hope the insurance come through for you!

Aw, man... that's awful. May the thief be visited by karma, and end up having a worse week than you do in some manner.

Let her wonder why she lost me.
I have a somewhat different view...

If you get good service, tell them.
If you get bad service, tell them.
Give the one who errs a chance to make amends.
I have found this wins their respect and appreciation.

If they refuse or do nothing, then tell EVERYBODY.

The thing is, over the years, she made me wait for my haircut appointment when the client in her chair wasn't finished yet. Or she made clients wait while she finished mine. There's absolutely no reason to not have finished my wife's haircut before moving on to her other client. At the very least, she could have scheduled a second appointment for my wife then and there, if the other client absolutely had to have his hair cut at that exact time. If she thinks so little of my business, and the loyalty I showed over the years, that she's going to cut short (no pun in intended) my wife's haircut sitting in favor of another client, why should I reward her with another chance? She knew how to get in touch with me. If she wondered why I hadn't been in in a while, she could have reached out. I've had other barbers/stylists do that.

Planned to take my eldest to see Dune (I have no idea why she is interested, but it's pretty rare out must sees overlap) today. Yes, cinemas are open here. Turns out its HBO release only until December. Which seems to be just a theoretical thing in NZ, even if I did want to watch it on the little screen.

FIL passed away suddenly yesterday morning. He was at his GF's house, apparently had a heart attack in the bathroom. GF (with advancing dementia) panicked, ran into the street screaming for help. Someone called the police, and they are keeping the body in custody until they can rule out foul play. This is in Mexico, so different rules.....

Took my wife to the airport yesterday...I didn't go as prices were astronomical. (When did bereavement fares disappear??) Two hour delay, arrived after 1 a.m. Can't do anything for plans until autopsy is completed apparently.

If the death isn't bad enough, the bureaucracy just adds to the stress. Dying in the bathroom of a friend's house at 86 doesn't seem all that suspicious. Maybe it was his insulin needles. Maybe it's not just Mexico....my sister told me that when her FIL passed at home, a P.O. had to sit with him until the coroner could come and make his determination. Maybe hospice is the best way to go...

If you have very hairy skin it doesn't make much difference.

Terribly sorry to hear. I don't have good words for these things.
