They FINALLY released the body. 33 hours later. No one in the family saw him except the GF, who'd found him. Hope the popo are satisfied that no one offed him.

Plan was to cremate, now that's up in the air with the whole SNAFU.

On a brighter note, it was just a week ago he finished presenting a week-long course for some guys from the north of the country. Wore him out, but who does that stuff at 85?

He always liked cornering me for intellectual conversation...in Spanish. I might be able to hold my own in English, but I'm at cretin level in Spanish....

Got my shiny new BBQ rack today. I couldn't believe it was already here. I wasn't going to do anything with it tonight, but my son was in the shower and it was only quarter after seven, so ...

Half an hour later it's on and tight and shiny and new and ...

seat won't latch. Well, crap.

Tomorrow is another day.

Dipshits on Nextdoor who seem to think that you have to specifically tell FedEx to deliver your packages to your front door, and that if you don't, it's acceptable for the driver to just place the package in your driveway.

Champion Windows and Exteriors.

Around 12 years ago, we had windows, two sliding doors, and siding installed by Champion.
Installation was not good; water came in due to flashing being installed incorrectly, and a few other things that were corrected shortly after the install. I had to go through BBB complaints to get them to repair their mistakes (I had TONS of pictures of what can only be described as incorrect installations).

Cut to about a month ago. I knew one of the sliding door handles was bad, so I swapped it out for the other door that we basically never use. Decided this week to call in a warranty on it, so I figured I'd go do a thorough check on things. Found a hole in the siding (in all likelihood caused by me, though I don't remember it, but their warranty covers things like this) and two windows with pitting, it appears, in a coating.

So I tried calling. Automated system sent me to voicemail. I don't typically do voicemail so skipped it. Called again later, same deal. Found their website and filled in a warranty request on all three issues. Called again (I like to confirm things by talking to a person), same voicemail. Figured, what the heck, called again, but this time in the automated system I indicated I wanted to schedule an appointment for a new order. Got answered immediately.

I told the person on the other end what I had done, sorry, no new work, but I would like to speak to someone about some warranty service. Got transferred, and another actual person answered. Brief conversation later, and was told 2-3 MONTHS before a service tech would contact me. Hold on a sec, 60-90 days? Yes sir. Um, that seems reasonable?

Checked out their BBB rating. Whoah boy it went downhill since we had the work done....

So it looks like this is the beginning of a new ride on the old roller coaster.

Work on house interiors, exteriors, and landscaping have had a longer lead time than I would like for years. Now with the Covid situation, it seems that all work is scheduled months out. I have been told that window and door work is among the worst, because of consistent supply issues. Sigh.....

I get that, but to be pushed to voicemail for service request, and get to a real person immediately for new business, last straw.

Due to the problems with the original installation, I can pretty much guarantee they lost my neighbors' business, too. Couple across the street did pretty much the same work as we did, and asked about our experience prior to making their decision on who to use....

Gutted over an SUV driving through a Christmas parade tonight. No death toll yet other than "several" but around 20 to local hospitals. No idea what motivated the attack.

Been a rough couple of weeks with a high profile and divisive trial. We really could use a break.

Drug dealers. They prey on the weakness of our loved ones and steal their lives and loves. I hate dealers. May they find their special place in hell.

Sadly, I do not have a special story to share - it is same story that is already shared by almost every family in one way or another.

Adelaide's last drive in theatre will close in February next year due to various factors with Covid being the final nail.
(At one stage there were 15 drive ins.)
It opened in 1955 with Roman Holiday starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck.

Yeah, that makes sense. I guess its lock downs and people are generally afraid to 'go out', except to the supermarket to stock up on toilet paper etc.

Mrs. CLE and I went to the Drive-In three times this summer - the most since high school. It was fun and safe. Unlike high school we actually watched the movie, but then again cars are different now days. Who was the wise guy that invented the center console?

Thank you for sharing. Yeah, those guys qualify with scumbag bone fides.

Prescott Valley is a separate city from Prescott itself, so that shade is rather localized. I'll be mindful not to biff it there.

I would have thought that a single case of wrongful death due to failure to arrive
linked to punitive damages against the service provider would have sorted that out.
Sadly of course, it means that somebody actually has to die...

More just "well that's another damn thing," I guess.

I finally get the chance to drag myself to a dentist for the first time in who knows how long, only to learn from the x-rays that I've got bone loss going on. Most likely reason? Side effect from two long-term medications for completely unrelated issues. I don't even want to begin to bother addressing that until the holidays are over.

Try to fix one problem, and end up causing more. Ugh.

This infuriates me.

Can't they put the hose on the correct side in the icon? Then they wouldn't need the arrow.

I suspect I'm walking right into your sarcasm trap, but... the arrow has fuck-all to do with which side of the pump the hose is on.

HA! This was the first thing I thought. Assuming the driver is unfamiliar with the vehicle, it indicates which side the tank is on for filling.

My brain tells me "hey dude, park next to a pump that looks like this one".

Another part of my brain usually chimes in with "hey dork, remember the time you did that at the super busy gas station with the kids in the car?"

Which reminds me - I get pissed off when a gas station's fuel lines won't extend to the other side of the vehicle. Very common in the US, not elsewhere.

If you look at the fuel gauge on your dash, you will see a little pump pictogram.
It has a small arrow to the left or the right.
That indicates where the fuel flap is located.
Choose a pump on the side where the flap is located.
No more frustration...

It's a pleasure.

EDIT : Reading this again with the pictogram above made me think it was rather patronising in tone. Apologies. I thought it was another case of not reading the manual.

South Africa tells the world: "We identified a new Covid strain!"
The world then says: 'We don't want to play with you any more because you're all diseased!"

Next time we may not say a word.

Sometimes the only pumps available are 'on the wrong side' and there's no chance of easily manouvering around the other way. One-way entry fuel station etc...

I spent the evening with my parents and discovered that although they still vote Labour (Democrat equivalent) they still spout racist comments and condemned Climate Change protesters for peacefully making their point.

I'm either putting it down to them being previously hard working, Trade Union types but also Xenophobic and increasingly losing their ability to listen to opinions that have been ingrained in them.

Which reminds me of a customer at work yesterday who frequently makes racist comments yet is a vocal climate change supporter.

Wouldnt it be easier if Right Wing voters were all narrow minded and selfish and Left Wing voters were all liberal minded and selfless.

Oh, it's been a day...

This morning my wife took the progeny to get their COVID booster. A couple of hours later she said her good-byes for an afternoon shift at the library. Then she returns. Car won't start. Just radio, no clicks or anything out of the engine. As she has to leave ASAP, I tell her to take my car (I'm sweet that way ) I had to go to the office for some odd stuff, but worst case I have this scooter.... (not such a bad problem so far....)

I decide to see if I can get a charge in her car battery, pull out my rather ancient charger, put the clamp on the positive terminal, then ,as the negative isn't accessible, search for a decent ground. In pulling on the wire, I inadvertently pull the charger off of it's perch, which falls face down on the floor, dead. Crap. I'm definitely taking the scooter....the only bright spot here-it's 36 degrees F and quiet, about as good as it gets for the end of November.

At the office, I had some stuff to clean out of the basement, most of it to give away for resale. As Mrs. f works 2 blocks from my office, I do a quick switch with vehicles so I can drop off the stuff. We have a choice of charities, and I drove across town to St. Vincent's. Pull up, see a "CLOSED" sign on a sawhorse, but there's a guy moving things around outside by the drop off, with the door open. I'm thinking maybe its ready to be placed across the drive. I get out of the car to ask if they're open...

Me: "Open?"

Him: "No"

I strain to see the hours printed on the sign on the door.... he comes around the passenger side to say something, and I roll the window down...

Him: "Our winter hours are 10-3"

Me: [glancing at my dash clock] "It's 2:27'

Him: [shrugs]

I drive across town the other way and drop my stuff off at Goodwill.

That's the 5G interference from the booster. Obviously.

South Africa tells the world: "We identified a new Covid strain!"
The world then says: 'We don't want to play with you any more because you're all diseased!"

Next time we may not say a word.
My friend Gary married a US citizen in South Africa and they emigrated to USA.
He became a US citizen earlier this year.

Due to Covid he was unable to travel to South Africa to see his son (from his first marriage) and his mother for over 3 years. His father died 2 years ago during the first Covid outbreak.

Gary was booked to fly here on Friday...

Received the following email from a member of the extended family:

This. This is pissing me off today. A private ambulance company in Prescott Valley, AZ has a monopoly, and is trying to punish a local fire department for (gasp!) saving lives when the @#%^ ambulances don't show up on time.
